Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

afraid for everyone - annual pass or fail review

I worked at wells before so I know how screwed up it is. I have a friend there who has been tortured by her boss for the last year. She had her review a week ago and her manager failed her rather than passed her. She's not a bad employee. Now she is being put on a Performance Improvement Plan and her management is forcing her to quit. She's in the corporate risk group.

Wells is ultra chaotic and anyone can be swept up into this nightmare. Anyone knows someone or experienced first hand this chaos?

I told my management that the pass/fail system gives no incentive to do any better than the average schmo working down the aisle. Why go out of my way, if I'm getting the same "grade" as everyone else on my floor SMH.

  1. Employers are required to share files kept on employees. If you are terminated you need to request in writing to HR for copies. You have a right to this information. Attendance, performance evaluations, follow-ups or disputes, awards, special bonuses, discipline or termination or layoff actions - the state unemployment bureaus will review if a company fights paying compensation.
  2. You are responsible for your own career path. Managers and management are not going to take you by the hand to show you things. You have to be willing to learn, apply that learning and earn, yes that's right, earn the position year after year after year. From the training, workshops and opportunities set in front of you, if you have not progressed in becoming more valuable, why would any company keep you around? Not that you need to lose weight.

In times like this, it’s critical to keep records throughout the year of your performance. Make sure you get a written mid-year review and then document any monthly 1 on 1 meetings with your boss. I guarantee you that if WF wants to get rid of someone, HR is coaching the manager in how to line the personnel file with evidence. Make sure you store your records at home because once they terminate you, you won’t have access to any of your files. Good luck!

Only ratings are Improvement Needed and Performing. If someone gets Improvement Needed they can dispute the review through Employee Relations eForm as there is a team that investigates these disputes.

If you get Improvement Needed your manager can ensure you get no bonus or raise. this is one way they try to get you to quit because ratings and compensation are locked in before 12/31 and you dont know about your rating until Feb.

are the ratings only pass or fail? Not above avg or better? Seems like they are driving mediocre people so the people who deserve recognition do not get it, same things in the schools where even the ones who lose or put in no effort get a trophy

So if someone passed, what's the worry nesides the usual banter here and lack of transparency from management?

Yea new management that came in had no experience in the field thus doesn’t know what people are doing or should be doing. He is an order taker too. I would fire him first.

It seems that it is now time to disengage from Wells Fargo bank. Hopefully not being in any way associated with all of it's scandals. Get a new bank for checking, savings and credit card. If no longer employed by Wells Fargo do not wish to be one of it's victims with the fake account scandal, and all There are a LOT of other banks to do business with when one is no longer a Wells Fargo employee. In fact changing banking relationships with be among the first "to do list" items after being terminated by Wells Fargo. Going on interviews will have to beg, and explain, that I had nothing to do with any of the illegal actions and scandals occurring at Wells Fargo at the present time.

This is what happens when you do not have a good Manager. A Manager who cannot actually do the work that the employee is expected to do, thus not able to properly coach that employee or train them in the required skills for the job.
