Funny thing AT&T is paying us for work we do. If we don't do our jobs we get wrote up, suspended with out pay, terminated. We are paying union to work for us. Doesn't seem like much working for us has happened. Why aren't we holding them accountable?? Union where did you go?? We can't hear you anymore! Help us keep our jobs! Instead urging us to vote in a contract because company states they won't surplus for a quarter. Come on you can do better than that!

Seems like most of the call centers could just be replaced by an interactive webpage with that customers can check off. Internet down? Use you phone and visit the webpage.
Last contract for craft, on west coast, we voted NO the first time. The company added 3 extra paid days off for union reps and 2 weeks later the union urged we vote YES, and it passed. Thats our union !
all the call centers are forced in doing sales. Even tech support. If they don't meet their goals for not adding new lines , then rumor is that rep will be out. Some of these call centers never did sales, not in their job description. But now are forced to save this dying company.

The union can only help if you play by the rules set forth in the contract.
To the last poster , I believe the union won you prem techs protection from getting laid off based on performance. I believe you now get laid off based on seniority. That’s a big win here in the southeast. I think they also got you other benefits. It’s a process. It doesn’t happen over night. You have to remember that the prem tech title was crammed down everyone’s throat and was supposed to be temporary. The union has actually won the prem techs a lot since the title was first formed. You guys make much more money than you did when you were non -union.
Just be glad you have a union, even a sh1tty one like the CWA. Prem Techs don't even have that - we are an appendix to the contract. We get abused on a daily basis by our employer and have dues forfeited from our paycheck to the CWA bank account in return for...drum roll...NOTHING!!

Old news and the truth
Just because your union does not mean you are protected if you do not meet expectations of the job.
You have the union confused with wishing tree. The union recognizes that it is a business.
Yep that’s the problem. People seem to think the union is their nanny. Grow up. The union is their to help you earn fair wages and benefits and ensure the company doesn’t abuse its workers. It’s not supposed to Be there to protect the dirt bags. Also , the company has every right to surplus its workers. There’s not much the union can do about it at the end of the day. They can only try to reach a compromise with the company and they do try and they do get things done within reason. Be reasonable. Don’t expect the union to protect all jobs. Be grateful you have a union at all. Most in the US don’t have the protections you have.

The union sees to it you are treated fairly. No union can protect you if you decide to not do your job.
The union has a duty to represent. If you don't think they're doing it correctly, that can taken up at the NLRB.
But hey, I have an idea. Maybe you should do your job? 😜
