Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

T stock heading right back to ~$27

the story here is AT&T is a mess. DTV, done, AT&T Wireless, #3, with smarter/better competitors, HBO, give me a break, subs are from free wireless offer, NOBOBY is signing up for $15/month HBO.

Elliot tried to rip the stock through buying call options and such, but the story here is just sad, the next GE.

@fkj - Garbage investments? Seem just fine to me. Low cost index funds work very well. After $180K "loss" this week, I'm still buying index funds and T... Still $2M+ with 80% 401K and 20% pension.

The price of the stock is largely a function of the dividend rate versus interest rates. At the end of 2018, the Fed started lowering interest rates, and AT&T rose. Now, if the Fed starts raising interest rates, then the stock will go down.
Right now, the market is pricing in between 1 and 4 quarter-percent rate cuts. So, the Fed is likely to do the right thing (for the stock). Meanwhile AT&T accelerated debt pay down and managed to buy back some stock. So, I'm not seeing a threat to the dividend. So, my call is, the hunt for yield will protect the stock.

All bets are off if Bernie Sanders becomes president, but currently, I'm not seeing that priced in anywhere except health related stocks.

You sound brilliant. Can you explain why the global markets have a higher percentage drop than T and you think that T would be unaffected when the rest of the market is dropping?

T was headed this direction anyway. The sooner the better

I was here during the dark days of T, where layoffs were bad and often they whacked you by saying the following to you on a Friday afternoon at 4:00 - "Your job is in New Jersey starting Monday morning, if you still want it."

My point being that every time there were massive layoffs at T, there was an inevitable stock market drop to further screw over the retirees. The whacked people then saw a 30% or 50% drop in their IRA, and many, many ended up working as Sprawl-Mart Greeters, cashiers at the local Jo-Ann Fabrics, or whatever. Not quite the retirement they were expecting.

I blame T limited investment options. Until they provided full control back in 2008(?) when they came up with Brokerage Link could I get a decent return instead of T's garbage investments. And then T only let you put a portion into Brokerage link - a lot was still stuck on the other side with their $hitty choices.

Time to panic and fear.

Relax, I know we have issues but the entire market is dropping due to fears over Corona Virus, everyone on here so negative and wants the company to fail, we ALL lose if that happens, if you are still here more layoffs and less bonus will happen if the stock drops, so root for success or we will all be down the toilet!!

And Jim Cramer is recommending T as a buy! I think poor Jim is drinking Ratty and Stinky Kool-Aid!
