Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

CWA District 9 PTs

We have been waiting 13 years for the job security that was promised. We are tired of being told to be grateful for an extra week of severance pay. Unions are supposed to better the life of workers, not the reverse CWA.

PTs, dont be idle when CWA announces that they have a tentative agreement soon. You were programmed to accept too little. Dont accept any contract without real gains.

Be ready to file failure to represent if they push for a BS contract before the expiration.

I’vemt several former PTs now doing other jobs in Core titles. You should have bid on other jobs as they opened up.

Typical millennials......J want what I want and I want it now!!!!!!!!! ( no matter if it’s earned or not). Prem techs are all the same.....I put up drop, I run inside wire and I talk to the customer so I deserve $40/hr. Seriously, you are in an ENTRY level job. Get over it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Y'all been here 13 years and think you have a job worth fighting for?

I would fight for a job with good pay

I would fight for a job with a pension

I would fight for a job with vacation

I would fight for a job with sick leave

None of these exist in the prem tech title. Stop going above and beyond. Work to rule. Refer every damn ticket. Keep job hunting and get out.

When a PT stops giving a expletive deleted they will be given an ST or FT position. Stop being an a- hole, get with the program.

When AT&T TV goes nationwide U-verse TV and even Directv sales will be heavily curtailed.

When you make up a third of the membership here and zero representation in the bargaining committee. In addition, hearing the presidents conspire to undermine the PTs in the next contract is sickening.

The battle has been lost. No matter what prems do, it’s over. The title was doomed from its inception by SBC. They wanted temps and they got them. CWA needed to keep the rest of the titles subdued about non union work so they unionized you. They never had intentions of helping you. Find a way to get what you can and move on.

13 years would be low man on my crew of 20. I worked every Saturday for 18 years, and every Saturday starting my weeks vacation. 13 years is a good start, but hardly a reason to complain.

At OP,
Temp Job Title means not permanent. Job Security means permanent. In 13yrs you should have transferred out. The Union has been representing you. Every Contract it’s been on the table. They got you bumps in pay but never made headway in changing your job status. It was a bargaining chip that was played. Get your severance and hire on with one of the Contract Companies. With your experience they’ll snap you up.

It's about a lot more than just job security and you know it @qtm. Prem Techs are tired of being treated as second class members by the union that they pay dues to.

SOLIDARITY Prem Techs! If we have to go before the NLRB to get fair representation from the union that we have been paying our hard earned money to all this time, then so be it!

13 years is pretty good job security. And 13 years of complaining? Wow.
