In February I set up retiree insurance for March 1. On March 1 my insurance was COBRA. Called Benefit Connection and was told I had set up retirement insurance and it should change. Checked today and it is still COBRA. Calling tomorrow. If you go COBRA you cant get retirement insurance. One wonders if this is by design?

  1. 75 is the number. Why not? It’s fun. Ponder 3.14 squared. Pay not the egregious fees. Red Zander lives.

@1lux+

If you took the VSP, VZ covers your COBRA medical and dental for your pay out period for up to (depending on years service, the 3 week per years worked ) 60 weeks. At the end of your payout period, you'll have three choices. #1 Stay on COBRA and start paying for it. (No matter what though COBRA runs out 18 months after your last day off of work) #2. Another choice is BEFORE THE END of your Verizon pay off period if you want to get your insurance from VZ, you call or login to Benefits Connection an OPT OUT of COBRA then into the Verizon Access (or known as ) the Retiree Pre Medicare plan. It's a lot like the open enrollment process. You should really speak with Benefits Connection and double check this information, but it is what I did. After on-line enrollment I doubled checked with Benefits Connection to make sure my enrollment was "pending " and would start the day after my payout period ended. Please call them at 855-489-2367. I can't remember the options but just call and you will end up with someone to help you. And #3 would be going into the Obama Care exchanges or just buying private insurance. Make sure your local medical providers participate in the exchanges. Mine didn't. I would of have to seek treatment over 150 miles away.
Good Luck! It seems complicated but in the end it's an easy process.
Just another thought...if you turn 65 before the end of your 18 month COBRA you could look at just applying for Medicare and not having to opt in VZ's pre Retiree health insurance. Once again though do your own research on this!

@hfs+, @ kpq+, @1xzi,

I was non union and did not qualify for any subsidies. My monthly cost for just myself for non COBRA, Pre Retiree coverage is $1076 per month for PPO medical. Add an extra $35 per month for PPO Dental. Near the end of your Verizon paid COBRA, make sure you opt of out COBRA by going into Benefits Connection and if you want to buy Verizon insurance, opt into VZ Access which seems to be also known as the Retiree Pre Medicare plan. I know it sounds high. But the copays and deductibles are low and the coverages look good. If you use a lot of medical services you could pay about that much anyway.

You should of received mail explaining you would continue on cobra on a pay plan once the coverage ran out. They asked people to call in and opt out of continued coverage. Vz Hr can get you the contact number I am sure

Yes. I am 12/28/18 VSP and I opted out of COBRA and then signed from for the VZ Access or Retiree Pre-Medicare Insurance. I received my first bill just last Friday. The bill was for both this month, February and March. So be prepared to pay for two months on the first bill.
