Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

DOOMS DAY IS COMING CALIFORNIA!!!

Fellow Premise Technicians in California. Monday is the first day before your doom. CWA presidents held a meeting in Sacramento. The presidents agreed that they would not fight or strike for us when the contract ends. They all agreed to let us "die out." Does this surprise anyone?
The contract negotiations start on Monday. The presidents are all in agreement that they will allow the members to vote on whatever at&t throws at them. This has never been done before. This will again include only crumbs for us.
If the union doesnt fight for a better contract for us, it is time to file failure to represent complaints with the nlrb. CWA bargaining committee is corralling its non appendix E members.
They are planning to con you out of your dues. Dont be fooled again. You have a legal right to be fairly represented by CWA. CWA has an obligation to you as a dues payer.
Call your president and ask them about the Sacramento Agreement.

You over paid "top crafties" the day is coming where you are suplussed and you become one of the whiney prem techs. Hahaha the whiners are typically the pay froze top craft prem techs. So disgusted listening to you spew your ignorance and rants about how we are all jealous. Wish I could be a fly in the van when you all get the prem tech title.

@1dyp first you guys cry about Prems complaining too much and not doing their share of the work. Then you guys cry about Prems NOT complaining enough and doing too much work. If you aren't aware of what's going on you should stay out of the conversation.

Prem Techs were / are ready to strike for a good contract! Were is their union? If you want to talk about weak kneed and useless, let's talk CWA!

@ada, you do realize Prem Techs work outside too don't you? Prem techs hang drops, test pairs back to the crossbox, and do fiber work. Some even go above and beyond and remove bridge taps!

If you think sitting in a muddy pit is bad imagine how much fun it is spending an afternoon installing and peaking a stupid-as$ DTV dish on the roof of a 2 story house in freezing weather with a howling wind blowing the whole time. And knowing that after that you still have to hang a new aerial drop and get service from the xbox because AT&T wants 1 under payed overworked tech to do it all, by him self. And we haven't even started the inside work yet!

Prem Techs don't hate the senior outside guys - we wanted the opportunity to join you as fairly paid workers with a future at this company. What we do hate is the CWA, which has taken our dues for the past decade with no intention of ever trying to fight for us.

PTs can not disrespect top craft and then expect top craft to back them.
Seniority rules...like it or not. I was surplussed both when the line crew went away in the 80's and locating did in the 90's.
Nothing new. No one senior to me cared.
I want PTs to make $45 an hour, because I'll make $60.
But what PTs need to realize is that there is a big difference between installation, in home repairs and sitting in a muddy pit in the cold toning a damaged pulp cable.
I worked every Saturday for 18 years...I had to pay someone $200 to work for me the day of my wedding.
Save the tales of woe.
We don't get paid for what we do, we get paid for what we know how to do.

Believe me I’ve also seen a lot of prem techs sitting in their vans playing video games! I think there’s good and bad on both sides not fair to class all MST’s and Prem techs the same. I’m a MST with 25+ years and believe me I earned my time,I’ve worked hard to where I’m at now, things were just not given to me with some golden contract some other poster claims! I work with prem techs every day and we respect each other! Stop fighting between the ranks. It doesn’t hurt Anyone but us.

PTs make up about a third of CA AT&T union members. CWA locals are not viable without your dues. If the bargaining committee has a plan of not fighting for appendix E, then get ready to file charges.

@hvr+13Dft21r, you’re truly ignorant. Premise techs ARE craft just like you dummy. Furthermore , many of our PT brethren are former ST, FTs and OPTs that got laid off and are just trying to keep working like you and me. Many prem techs have many years seniority. Show some respect or at least compassion for your fellow union brothers who don’t have it as good as you. Your anger needs to be towards c-suite , not fellow CWA members who work just as hard if not harder than you. I’m not a prem tech but I see how hard they work and how bad they are treated. Enough ! Knock it off and grow up.

Imagine making $200,000 a year to cut out bridge tap and cry about a bonded pair install and then logging into a lay-off website to make fun of people making $70,000 year fighting to gain job security.

Lol. Most msts didn’t earn their current contract guy....unless you have 40 years, which is a small majority, you were handed a golden contract that previous generations fought for....Amazing the division and dislike for a younger union generation....when it’s contract time CWA loves the passion and energy of prem techs to “fight” for a good contract....the other 3.5 years of the contract, it’s considered whining and annoying noise for the lazy fat cats at the top that feel entitled to what a previous generation handed them....

PTs generally are jealous of craft and if manifests itself as anger, aloofness and arrogance.
Most craft has 15-40 years. We earned everything we have over the decades.
PTs didn't see it, because the company doesn't hire 5 yr olds.
PTs have far less time, have not earned it, and to be honest folks get tired of their complaining.
They knew what they signed up for.

The PTs were a trial when they hired on. Once they were added to the contract, they have the same rights as workers in the other appendices.

PTs, if the union pushes to ratify a contract before it expires, file failure to represent charges with the nlrb. If the intent is not to fight for you anymore, then they shouldn’t take your dues.

Premises technicians need to file a class action law suit against the CWA for the refund of all dues they have been paying for the last 12 years. Not ONCE in that time has the CWA ever represented the Premises Technicians. Their dues have only been used to fill CWA coffers to represent core contract represented workers while Prem Techs get ignored.

And @sjz, in case you didn't notice, every worker outside of India is a temp worker at the company now. No American job is safe.

It’s was said from the initial inception, The Prem Tech Title was created and agreed upon by the Union to be a temporary job title. The life expectancy was 10yrs. The Union fought for the Title because the Company didn’t even want that.
That’s the reason the Wage Schedule was so low. I sympathize with the Prem Techs because in the few contract years they were involved in, they were the tip of the spear. They proved they were willing to lead the fight for better work conditions. Yet they were never embraced by the Core establishment both Craft and Upper Management. It’s not going to be pretty having to fight both the Management and the Union. Fight the good fight.

I heard about this from the yard steward. The PTs are the disposable arm of the union. The buffer zone.

All the presidents are full of bs.
