Working for Wells as a Contractor

Anyone out there as an IT Contractor-

Are they honoring their contract durations, or playing games like cutting early once you do some work? In Chandler Az that was the case for a long time- now I'm getting calls promising "Temp to perm", "2 year" etc-

All too good to be true.

Any thoughts from 1st hand recent experience?

Was here a while ago. Came back in 2018. Lots of talk. Az is hard on locating office space outside of E Valley and Downtown Phoenix. NOBODY in N Phoenix/Peoria/Glendale wants to drive East and back....CPG is doing better but needs work on finding space. Ask if you can switch to another location after a few months.

We have contractors in ICS... I've been told that having contractors is good when its time to do head count reduction becus you can cut a contractor and it counts towards this reduction in head count.

contractors in my group do very little and there work could easily be picked up by us FTEs with not a lot of effort

OP again-

PS I know of people who got promised remote- literally the 1st day they showed up to pick up their gear / laptop that got rescinded- drive to the office, every day. LOL. I got this from the guy himself who interviewed me for the role- another contractor who had only been there for 60 days. Yes, the very same guy.

I didn't have the heart to tell him this is just the beginning of being sodomized. The straight-up lied to him to get him in the seat.

That instance sure as heck didn't help in my decision to tell WF IT to pound sand the other day. Took another better paying gig instead.

OP here-\

Reason I ask is I had a 1.5 year stint there when the SHTF-FIrst round was OK, then I got extended when they needed manpower for some UAT stuff. Really high pay, and a promise of LT projects.

"Yeah, long term gig! Oh yeah, plenty to do!"- So I took it.

Sat on my arse for a month, basically being my manager's pinky finger- no project plan, no nothing, getting ignored until UAT. A critical system to achieve compliance was about to be audited after an update

Day after UAT- bye bye. In other words, i was emergency standby labor to ensure this rollout went without a hitch. Nothing more, nothing less.

I think they are telling everyone these fairy tales like high pay and conversions just to get good talent in the door, then that's it.

I've basically been ignoring them since then- every time a new fine hits, a project dies, contractors get the boot.

I"m not doing it anymore for Wells, sorry. I just don't believe them anymore.

Why go to Wells when there are many more stable, and

I am an IT contractor who has been at Wells for 14 months. Wells Fargo policy in regards to contractors is that all vendors must give WF the option to convert a contractor after 90 days with no fees. Of course, I have not seen this happen because one cannot convert directly; they have to through the entire hiring process which includes going through the external candidate career portal assuming there is an open position.
You can be a contractor for up to 24 months consecutively but after that time you must be away for 6 months before being consider for another contract. This does not apply if you want to become an employee.

To the poster who asked why WF needs contractors. Like any major corporation, they bring in contractors to help with new projects or initiatives where they don’t have enough full time resources to work on business as usual and the new projects. Or they don’t have enough specific technological expertise. I know the fte’s I work with average 55-65 hours a week and have a hard time keeping up with their current work load, let alone new projects.

I can’t think of any contractors in Technology right now, certainly not in my org. Everyone that I knew of had been cut already.

Why are we offering contractors 2 year gigs while forcing others to quit by using relocation strategy? Trust only that you shouldn’t trust.
