Not sure how many know what it is- but the company has been pushing it for years- today the decision was made that effective immediately no new HVD access will be granted. Apparently company is goi g back to regular desktops. HVD involves a lot of departments all within ATO- Helpdesk, Engineering, lots of people. Michelle Joyce team handles it all.

With all of the promotion of cloud computing, HVD will continue to be the wave of the future. It has it's place in lots of environments. Of course AT&T's implementation has been a disaster because they always want to basterdize it and make it work other than sold.
Hvd requires big bandwidth and low latency network hardware that, ironically, most company locations do not have. It would be a disaster for network.
I am in ATO and among the first groups that were forced to HVD, probably about 5 years ago now. It was painful at first. Constant lockups, screen freezing, etc. To the point where it was put upon us to create teams to documents and track all of the issues with HVD. Over time, the performance has improved significantly. Issues now are fairly rare. Re: "I guess you have to drag yourself into work everyday since there won't be any laptops to take home to login to"...not entirely correct. Most people have what they call a "thin client", which is basically a stripped down laptop, in the office. Screen is so small it really requires use of external monitor. But you can certainly take it home. And there is a "BYOD" program where you can load the HVD software onto your personal device at home and access HVD that way. Works just fine.
We were rebadged to Tech M and no one uses HVD nor have we been told we have to? We all have laptops?
HVD is king only if you like looking at the hourglass. It’s slow and temperamental. Like our leadership.

The present and future is HVD. I guess you have to drag yourself into work everyday since there won't be any laptops to take home to login to.

Well, they're about to get a bunch of laptops back from rebadged IBM employees, but probably nowhere near enough to wholesale end the use of HVD. HVDs are mandatory for the long term contractors like IBM and Tech Mahindra.

That is interesting considering how many HVD projects are in flight right now.
