Don't expect to retire here unless you are one of the fast track TDP's. I've seen too many head count reductions during my time here to know this is not a place to retire. Maybe back in the Pac Bell days, but not anymore.

"Retiree benefits are pretty much worthless" ...I don't understand why some folks are downvoting this. I understand some of the bargained for folks especially, etc. will have better deals, especially with medical. But for many, the retiree benefits are indeed pretty much worthless. Many are eligible for no subsidized medical coverage at all. You can go and check your eligibility on OneStop and or/ call Benefits to "model" your retirement benefits. I am management, legacy Cingular/ SBC and while I am eligible for some subsidized medical retiree benefit, it's ridiculously expensive. Wireless plan? Same thing, ridiculously expensive (I'd do better right now as an active employee with 4 lines ditching it for TMO or Xfinity). DTV? Shoots up 10X the day you retire. There's just nothing there to get excited about "retiring", and nothing worth sticking around in the hopes of attaining "retirement eligibilty" in a job you're miserable at.
I was with TDP for 2 years, I could tell you there’s very limited growth opportunities in TDP. Bad politics , bad pay, etc. most people either left or want to leave
@137uD9dS-lqg Was exactly why I left - the benefits I would of gotten were highly overrated. Wasn’t getting anything medical so would of had to work till Medicare anyway. Glad I left and don’t give att any of my money for any of their so called services. My neighborhood used to be almost all att for internet and there is on person left and they will probably be switching this year. It is a joke and truly sad. I guess my neighborhood wasn’t the customers att wanted anyway. Love telling the dtv salesman at Costco who grabs you like 5 aisles over that I will not buy anything from them because I will not use an att service again or recommend them. If they continue the conversation I tell them it would be wise of them to go find a better employer.
it's all location, location, location. I retired after 44 + years, got sent over to Bell Atlantic when we all split. Managed to come back after 4 years over there and continued on. Started as a tech, was a union steward and worked my way through management ranks to a District. Was I a goody goody type, nope, the best of us techs could work drunk as a skunk. at this time retirement benefits along with medicare is better than when I worked. Also took my money and ran, still have it all. And as luck would have it, they asked me back to contract at almost the same $$, what a country..
Well, I have been here since 94 with SBMS...hit MR75 last year. So one way or another, I'll be "retiring". Which in my mind doesn't really mean anything. Retiree benefits are pretty much worthless.

TDP alums are not safe. Current TDPs aren't either.
Wrong. I came in through SBC in '98, and I'm already MR75, and I plan to retire here, this year, boom, un-did you Union Boi.
Truth
LOL naw, I have seen plenty of people leave the TDP program only to get let go. A lot of my peers from the TDP program either got let go or left to other companies.
