So much harshness here

I expect there is a good chance that my telecommuting job will go away, but at least I will not be surprised by it. I might have a choice to relocate - I am very curious to hear the terms of any package. But I've been through this before at other companies, and I appreciate Saul's candor and the warning of incoming bad news, which has helped me plan for my own resiliency. At some other companies, they just whack you hard one day and walk you out the door. Regardless of whether you are disappointed by the old-fashioned decision to keep staff in physical fishbowls, Saul is clearly working hard, and I appreciate how he is handling his difficult role.

I would agree that there is some misdirected harshness, but Saul is incompetent. Saying so is not harsh, it's merely making a pretty supportable assertion. I could absolutely grant that he means well and is trying to be open. That doesn't make his ideas any less bad.

We have a company reeling from issues on the sales side of the house and instead he's dropping a bomb in IT. How is that possibly a good idea? How can he say small co-located teams is the way to go and then expand the India presence? Almost no one is doing small co-located teams in 2020 in any case. How can he say we wants more engineers focusing on engineering and then a month later announce a whole new layer of compliance (last summer)? How does a competent tech leader in 2019 announce that the company is abandoning Microsoft and going to the public cloud and then be forced to walk it back several weeks later when the people who actually know what they are doing tell him the ramifications.

Saul is an accountant who believes he is a tech visionary. He may know how to "manage" tech - his resume suggests he does. But he's clueless about "leading" tech. The company will probably muddle along, but in 2-3 as the results of his changes start to become obvious, he'll have to leave.

And now we've heard from Saul's PR team.

Saul fumbled the location strategy and the disruption to people's lives is ongoing.

Working hard is not the same as having good ideas.

I agree there's some harshness on this site, but this is not harshness, this is observation.
