Check General Electric, Enron, AIG, Nokia, Blockbuster, Myspace, Blackberry, Sears, Netscape, Nortel.
If improvements are not made it'll slowly lose market share to competitors; for how long, who knows.
The bigger question should be why does our leadership make decisions that have caused so much damage to this company's future? I know they don't want to see this company fail, but I wonder just how much they really give a damm either.
This place is just another stepping stone in their fabulous career path and more wind in their golden parachutes. Randall and The Stank and the others at the top obviously don't care about this company's customers or employees, and only care about keeping the shareholders happy enough that they don't revolt (which would take a lot in a corporate structure).

I dislike AT&T's executive management
I don't want to see AT&T fail but they are doing a good job of ruining what was once one of the most respected and well run companies into the ground with poor decision after poor decision. It has never been the same after divestiture and it is very sad to watch the slow painful death of a once great corporate giant known for high standards of integrity, quality, customer service and innovation, disintegrate into mediocre oblivion.
Not I. Even though I've grow to dislike the current leadership for making blunders and bad buys. I hope AT&T continues to turn it around, meet their goals. I plan to retire this year, and in 6 mo, I'd like to boomerang back as a contractor. So yeah, they still need to be here when I come back, and have real work to work on. Sadly the Stankenstein monster maybe king of the company, knowing more about TV than life long TV execs, but hey, as long as the contract check doesn't bounce.

Att gets what they deserve and I will fight for my tax dollars to be used in any kind of bailout. Att is a cesspool and I will never give it any of my money and I will tell people to avoid them like the plague because it is a deceitful, crooked company that needs a major cleaning of its house.
Att is fail-proof, besides being a virtual monopoly in the telcom space, it's considered a vital for national security (go look it up the government keeps a list of vital national infrastructure companies and will back stop them. If they ever got i to serious financial trouble), finally they are in one of the most lucrative and in demand business, telecom. Ain't going nowhere
Of course I do not want to see AT&T fail. This company does have great roots. The company has deep problems right now, obviously. However, I sincerely hope that the right leadership will emerge, which can guide AT&T to success. I've survived the surpluses thus far, and each day, I really do try to do my best. I'm also prepared in case I do get surplused, but I do hope that they can turn things around.
As long as people are still willing to send them money every month, the chance for failure is nil. AT&T has overall been successful for over 100 years. There are lots of disgruntled employees here who should find other employment instead of bashing the one who is paying the light bill.

such a dumb question, the less successful AT&T is the more jobs that are lost, it stinks we have to get rid of folks now, I just had to tell a good person their job was eliminated and that stunk. we need AT&T to do good so we can keep everyone working, those who wish otherwise should just leave!
For a company like ATT to fail, it would take Revelation level world unrest, I am not ready for the end of the world so...
If you are that unhappy, it's time to quit.
