Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

I got the call today and I a somewhat relieved.

I wanted to notify ALL on this site that I got the call today and I am going to retire with ALL benefits. I know some do not have this option however I know there is life after AT&T! With 23 years of service it has been a ride these past 5 years or so. I wish all the best with your careers and keep your head up and ears open!

If you are surplused, remember you will survive! It s—s when you’re not ready to go, but just step back, take a deep breath and know when one door closes, another one will open when it’s time. Good luck!

The difference with my situation is that I started with Bellsouth, 56 year and 23 years of service. The 75 rule I met last year. It depends on when you started, who you started with that determines your benefits for retirement. Some with the same rule 75 that I have will not have benefits or have to pay a hefty price for them.

1369f6NO-1jwc - nice comeback. The information I provided is helpful, review the SPD and start planning now. The point of my response was to tell him and others to not sit idle. Take ownership if your future and be prepared. Why wait until one is surplused and have to figure it out under pressure while hundreds of others are calling Fidelitly for the same thing and risk getting bad information because you ran out of time. You really think one will be black listed for looking at an SPD on the Fidelity site? These are life long decisions, as has been posted many times on this site, everybody's situation is different. This is not the place to come for retirement planning.

You said "dump all over my Amplify...: okay whatever that means. I am sure he found your post helpful. As I see it, you did exactly what you accused me of doing when in reality what I did was make strong suggestions to take ownership of the situation.

@-1qjs, got anything useful of nice to say, otherwise shut your pie hole. Stop attacking a fellow employee. They are no different than a whole lot of people; been here forever, never had to look, never quit or much less retired ever a day in their life from anywhere. A lot of that material is foreign, and never ever had to go look for it. People ask here for help, as many are afraid to poke around a company website, or call, as the very real fear of getting themselves on the blacklist ripe of getting laid off, and more than likely before they are ready. So Back TF off. Don't make me take a dump all over your Amplify about COBC violations, mo–n.

@1369f6NO-wka - 28 years and still trying to figure out what you are eligible for? It is fairly easy to determine, spend an hour to review the SPD that is readily available on the Fidelity website. With that many years invested here I expect you should have done some initial planning to exit this place. With all the surplus activity over the last couple of years you should have investigated this by now.

Rejoice for all of us affected by the surplus regardless of where you stand whether you meet MR75 or not. Real work begins now.

Started with Ameritech RBOC, then Ameritech Applied Technologies (AAT), then back to Ameritech, then SBC, then AT&T, all in IT and most without everchanging my office. Had 28 years in 2015 with M-75 met and took the MVO. John Donovan threatened layoffs by the end of the year and I only had a few weeks to decide when I read his two ugly emails. Didn't want to leave but with telcom in turmoil and all the outsourcing, it was a good time to leave.

Sorry you have to leave.

I got the call today that I didn’t want to hear, that you’ve found someone. Forgiveness, forgiveness, even if AT&T don’t want me anymore.

25 yrs of service + over 50 years old = 75 - Retirement Eligible

30 yrs of service + any age = 75 - Retirement Eligible

How do you get M75 benefits with 23 years of service? Isn't the minimum 25 + 25?

I'm in the same boat as you, minus the call, which makes me rather jealous and envious of you. Good luck to you, may you enjoy your retirement.
