Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Chapter 11 in 2020?

A number of analysts are predicting that AT&T is headed for a downfall in 2020, especially with the combination of customer loss and (with exception of Joker), Warner's recent box office bombs. From the inside, many employees feel the same. What do you think?

How can you file Chapter 11 when you are making record profits? They let anyone post here.

Lots' of financial experts here along with the OP would also probably say that that the Trump tax cuts helped the average guy.

Dude att makes 180 billion dollars a year, do you really think they are going to file for bankruptcy? It's the 53rd largest country in the world: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(nominal)

T would rather waste money on items that useless and frivolous. Like wasting money on mad so they can put all their wonderful Perl scripts on and rewriting and reinventing ldap with uam. Those are just two that come to mind but I am sure their is a ton more. They just keep wasting money on those non core items and in turn just raise prices on their wireless customers. Merry Christmas to all the t defenders I hope they find happiness in waiting for a surplus and having a rewarding career.

Project Airgig may save AT&T, but they will be competing with those low earth orbit satellite internet providers.

Some of the financial stats don't look good for AT&T, but AT&T has lots of cash per some of the analysts.

The loans have fixed interest rates right? So rising interest rates would not affect them.

Att won’t go bankrupt, they’ll just find ways to cut costs and make life a living hell for the employees left while the execs pocket millions.

I work at the old DTV headquarters and it doesn't look good. Teams are getting cut already.

Really people you are coming to a lay-off site and telling people to stop bashing the company that destroyed their lively hoods? Wow I am speechless. What is wrong with you people.

Stop using this site to bash ATT. It is meant to discuss legitimate employee layoffs so employees know how to plan.

Lol I have a feeling those are defending the company are paid asset management ou to protect the brand. That speaks volumes all by itself.

I have a feeling that, out of more than a million people who either work for AT&T or used to (AT&T has 500,000 people who made it to retirement), a disproportionate number of these posts are coming from a handful of cranks, and a small handful at that. Cranks with an AT&T obsession.

And yet the company manages to increase dividend payout again.

AT&T has applied the accounting methods from the shrinking land-line business to the rest of the company. When landline was losing 15% of customer every year, they broke everything into silos and managed every penny just to stay afloat. That meant you couldn't spend a nickel without ten financial "analysts" rejecting it first and then reviewing it as if they had any idea what they were looking at. SBC brought that to mobility and destroyed it. Then the accounting geniuses decided it would be good to use the same methods on a media company and are in the process of destroying that. Accountants only have hammers.... we all know the rest.

You sound like an att genius. You can only sell so many so called legacy businesses and keep doing creative accounting without paying the piper sooner or later. Probably why randy wants all the landline removed so they can count on government gifts and taxpayer subsidies to help pay off debt. Nothing like running an honest business.

No what they will do is lower there advertised price and then add on more fees to make the bills higher than what they were before they lowered their advertised price.

If they get in trouble they will just tack on more fees to the mobile bills.

Maybe a decrease in bottom line in 2020, definitely not bankruptcy. Perhaps by 2040 though.

Wouldn’t surprise me. If you see bonuses decreasing or stopping and pay being frozen then I would worry.

Chapter 11? In 2020? Pretty sure not a single analyst has made that prediction. No chance. Are you kidding?

Probably not 2020, but if a recession hits and/or interest rates rise AT&T will be in serious trouble.
