Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

AT&T has applied the accounting methods from the shrinking land-line business to the rest of the company.

When landline was losing 15% of customer every year, they broke everything into silos and managed every penny just to stay afloat.

That meant you couldn't spend a nickel without ten financial "analysts" rejecting it first and then reviewing it as if they had any idea what they were looking at.

SBC brought that to mobility and destroyed it.

Then the accounting geniuses decided it would be good to use the same methods on a media company and are in the process of destroying that.

Accountants only have hammers....

We all know the rest.

If you want to place blame with what is going on with the company it is solely senior management's fault. It is not the accounting and finance people that are doing all this. Finance is a support function to senior management. They provide support based on the plans senior management lays out. You would be surprised how often Finance cannot find ways to support senior management's plans and gets senior management to change those plans based on their analysis.

Doing the same with the cloud and is one of the reasons it has gone nowhere.
