Price to pay to avoid reserve labor army

Be forced to accept job offer 475 miles away in your 50s at the opposite end of the state. Leave family and friends behind as you rent a place with your co worker who accepted the same "offer." Try to hang on for dear life to make the MR 75. The union absolutely powerless to do anything about it and instead of at least showing some empathy acting how "fortunate we are." Thanks death star!

Hundreds of miles from home is now all but a common occurrence here especially with outside network technicians. I know one who rents an apartment where he works, stays sun through Thursday and home Friday after work which is 3.5 hours away. With cost of rent vs paycheck, I’m not so sure it’s even worth it.

Wishing you well. And I mean that sincerely. It's a money grab at this point. For us and " them". For the other side it's billions and what their short term portfolios will yield. Then , like most parasites, they will move on to a different host.
For us, it's survival. Get good information from HR, and a competent finan if you cancial advisor. Bleed this dry, if you can. The other side is of the same mindset.

Hitting M75 in 2020 adds 250K to my lump sum, so yeah I’m hanging on.

For the MR75 to be beneficial-with discounted group health insurance rates being the big play here-it will all depend on the path you've taken -as legacy T and Bell South employees are golden-from side conversations I think many will pay very low group plan rates for health insurance and will also seem to have pensions that are larger than most not legacy T and BS employees 401K plan. legacy employees from McCaw wireless and Cingular will have different levels of benefits as well, with none appearing to meet very generous healthplan discounts. Newer employees -good luck, I cannot realistically see how a 21-30 year old employee can get 20+ years with the company now,

Good Luck to everyone.

I guess with MR75 it depends on which pension plan you have. When I model mine, I lose 60% of my lump sum of 70% of my annuity if I fail to hit MR75

"I think you get the employee discount on the products.

Modelling my pension on the benefits site, it did not seem to make much difference whether I met the mr75."

That was me too. Discounts - lol - you can cheaper and better service without any discounts so that was no brainer to lose.

I kept modeling my pension and there was only a few hundred dollars difference. So I left on my own figured it wasn't worth staying with a lying a company when I was given an offer I couldn't refuse and I could not be happier. att is not a normal work environment and leaving was the best choice of my life. I haven't heard layoff or outsource since I left and I am getting a bigger bonus and better benefits. So it was a no brainer to leave the cesspool. att idea of innovation is putting automation scripts on a nas and have every server in company connect to the nas - how original and brilliant. it is about as original and brilliant as putting virus software on unix servers. Its no wonder they have to charge their customers more so they pay for all the brilliant decisions.

I once tried to find out what I would get by meeting the modified rule of 75.
I never did. They would not tell me. It might be an enhancement to medicare?
I think that they were afraid that I would try to hold them to that amount/benefit.

I think you get the employee discount on the products.

Modelling my pension on the benefits site, it did not seem to make much difference whether I met the mr75.

In the end though I made the MR75 after being bumped and sent to a state a 10 hour drive away.

"Try to hang on for dear life to make the MR 75..."

I hear people go on and on about this and cannot understand for the life of me why. I know many employees will have different retiree benefits available to them; mine happen to be so bad that hitting MR 75 was anticlimactic to say the least.

You may have been able to take OPT or ST if there was a junior you could bump. Better than moving.
