Am I reading this right ? There were no DT’s laid off this round in southeast ? I’m shocked. We’ve been getting laid off every quarter. Question though. What other titles can bump DTS ?

True. I have 22 years craft. I wouldn’t dream of going into management. Not at T anyway. My manager is a good guy who gets treated like garbage by upper management. And for what ? I see him work around the clock. No overtime. Stressed out beyond belief. His own techs make more than him thanks to a little OT and standby pay. No one in their right mind would go to that job for less pay , more stress and less job security !

@1spx, t seems to have trouble getting field techs to take management jobs. Some techs hire on with the goal of "making it" to management(newbies, none of these are the 2nd or 3rd generation bell heads). Some techs will take a management job due to health or family life reasons, but you don't see many experienced techs banging down the door for a management job...wonder why?
the reality is no one has time for cross-training and no one really wants to do it. Also , we can only fit so much gear on the clown cars they give us, the transit connect garbage. We can’t fit everything we need to do both jobs on them. Frankly , systems techs have zero interest in doing SSIM work and vice versa. Plus , one job is dirtier than the other. You’re going to from working outside sweaty and filthy to then conducting a training session with a customer’s employees on their new Avaya up office in their conference room ? In shorts ? These are the simple things that the company doesn’t think of because we’re managed by folks who have never picked up a screwdriver let alone work in field operations. Att, start picking your managers from those who have worked the field, not graduated from bean counting school.
@1vbv....right on....since the last contract, all we had heard was SSIM and SYS Techs are getting married....1st line SSIM managers had SYS Techs added as direct reports. 1st line SYS Tech managers were reassigned under 2nd level SSIM managers direct reports....cross training, both techs helping each other with jobs..we were told "this current contract(not the 2019 one) has to expire so some wording can get changed and then the SSIM/Sys tech marriage will final". Well, we have a new contract, and it's crickets on that deal.
I believe they added DEG DTs into skill set 3 AND 9, meaning DEG can now bump systems techs as well as SSIM. Union has been screwing over systems techs the last two contracts. They used to be “un-bumpable” but with 2015 contract , ssim was allowed to bump and now in 2019 DEG can bump. Just goes to show you the skill set groups are a farce when they can wave a magic wand and add or remove a title to whatever skill sets they want. The union agreed to this because they are interested in only protecting seniority. Nothing else matters. However , the union is walking right into att’s trap as they’ve now set a precedent for skill sets to be changed on a whim.
Depends on who's reading the contract. The last contract and the new TA(hven't received the new book yet) say the same thing: DT skill group 9(SSIM) can only bump System Tech. DT skill group 3(DEG) can only bump Service tech, FT, OPT....
DT DEG can SIPP for DT SSIM & Sys Tech...DT SSIM & Sys Tech can SIPP for DT DEG.
As of the last round of surplussing, its my understanding that they are letting bumping and Sipping across different skill groups. That tells me that the contract is either not being followed or the TA has been modified after ratification.
Systems techs can bump DTs. I think that’s all that can bump. Not sure though.
Bumping begins with junior same title within 35 miles then junior same family of skills within 35 miles. Probably an ST or OPT, FT if you’re lucky.
Skill group nine can bump SSIM DT’s as per last contract appendix A part 3.
Not anyone with wage scale 32 can bump a DT. Anyone with wage scale 32 ,who is test qualified, can try and bump a DT.
Anyone that’s a level 32 and in your family of skills can bump a DT. Not exactly sure who it is, but I would guess that FT’s can bump DT’s. It’s in the contract book. But if you get bumped, you have the ability to bump down to an OPT or ST that only makes about 12 dollars a week less than you.
@12vm7NSb-avi. Yes. In the Southwest a CO tech is a Comm. tech. Although not all Comm techs are CO techs. Some are testers.
In the last big SE surplus, with 911 cuts declared, not a single one of them was from SSIM....strange, not much work but not losing any head count

What is a DT in th SE? In the SW a central office tech is a COM, outside plant has Prem Techs, CST Customer Service Techs, Splicers and Combo techs- the combo techs now have TKT and are taking training for all central office work including power and switch which will ultimately eliminate the COM for central office title.
