Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

I was ATO and go hit with last years 1Q surplus. I was hired 4 days after by one of the top 10 employee owned companies doing something totally different than telecom. Couldn’t be happier to work for a company where you are recognized for the work you do. Plus our leaders aren’t dinguses.

and definitely don't act like you know me or anything over 15 years starting in craft at SBC working my A off.. just because i decided to take a step on the ladder to better my family you aren't better than me or anyone else, tensions are high but that doesn't mean you have to be like that... i know plenty of union friends who have reached out to me to see how we are doing and let me know about them so once again Merry Christmas and nothing but best wishes to everyone here and thier families!!

OP here, individual contributor 1st level are people too... some of those comments were just rude.. Randall is that you in sheeps clothing??? basically was just looking for others hearing same things... take your biterness and hate and send it elsewhere... i for one hope everyone is going to have a merry christmas despite the evil empire God bless everyone

1st and 2nd lines in ATO/ATFS/anywhere have no voice. They have little or no input on any decision, just like most of , they try to keep there head down and stay out of the line of fire.
They are sweating it out daily, from redundant reports and powerpoints to just going through the motions
Its a sad time for this company, the real issues start at 4th level, Directors are basically yes people or relatives of someone, who are instructed to put the pressure on those below. They keep down the noise to try to make that golden level of AVP with the perks and "responsibility"

The company is in a bad place due to bad decisions from the top.
Those in lower management, thought they had a chance to move up, to make a difference, they find out quickly that is not the case.

Good Luck to everyone at all levels, its going to be a rough ride and I do not see it ending well for most. If you have the opportunity to go, think about it in depth. Try to milk the cow, but the milk is running dry. Lots of bad decisions from the top for "accounting " bonuses have doomed the company.

ITs Enron, GE, and many others that execs were bonused on numbers, not doing what was best for the company. Why would Randy and the Stank get raises for this disaster, all based on specific numbers, not the health of the company.

Wow, don’t take your anger out on the managers blame the money hungry CEO’s for the downfall of the employees, they never gave a hoot about the employees, they were just fattening there pockets.

Wow.....did this post get off track! People are losing there jobs....period. Not good for anyone. We all have had some c-appy bosses! The enemy here is ATT...they have shown ZERO loyalty to ALL employees. Ego time is OVER....were all just expenses.

Ticks me off how everyone sounds off at management. Upper management I agree! But 1st lines? Give me a break! Many people act like they shouldn't have anyone to report to at all! Or they cry about about the old days when management came up through the ranks versus right out of college even though techs aren't exactly breaking down the door to become managers because they know in the current environment it would sk. Most 1st lines I know work their A off and get hit over the head from above constantly. And a lot of them care about their techs quite a bit. But a lot of good techs understand that and play the hand that they and their 1st lines are dealt. Too many techs want to shoot the messenger even though the messenger didn't write the message or even remotely agree with it...they're just delivering it or they lose their job too.

ATO has been canvassing for volunteers for a few weeks. I am craft but have friends who went into management both with and without direct reports.

As an outside tech of 25 years, I think we all have work to do to make this place better. The company is extremely toxic and leadership has contributed in cultivating it but it's up to us to change it. We can't just point fingers at Stank without trying to improve ourselves. Let's be better than our disgraceful leadership. One thing I know for a fact, if you are a caring, honest hardworker you will have a LOT of trouble here at at&t. If you are lazy & dishonest you will seem to skate by just fine. It's just the toxic culture. I would rather run into trouble and hold fast to my values than give in to the system. Let's all encourage each other, management & craft alike, I truly believe we are all doing the best we can, with what we have & what we know right now.

at peace now will take what i am gonna get and never look back at AT&T, time for a new chapter and hopefully for a company that cares again. AT&T used to care before it was bought by SWBELL

Again, It has been explained many times that a lot of so called "Managers" are NOT Managers as we are individual workers with no one under us or reporting to us and we are not managing anyone so the title Manager refers to our level.

I’m sure management surpluses to follow if they announced non management cuts today. I’ve heard TFS, C&E and some inside titles got hit hard so managers will be next. We did get quite a few taking MVO but at this point it probably doesn’t matter. 2020 is going to be brutal.

Sorry don’t give two sh–s about management, most of them made the choice to go to management. Only concerned about the rank and file, just my opinion
