Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

There will be nothing left in the end

I think the latest layoffs have proven one thing. AT&T will continue to shed employees and shrink until there is barely anything left. And until even that collapses and takes whoever is left with it. Those who are smart will be long gone by the time that happens.

Haha! CSO is awesome! Their answer to everything, is “no”. AT&T is the only company in America, not actively consuming public cloud. This is because CSO can’t solution a “secure” method to connect ATT to public cloud. It’s a complete joke.

@1jnj - if they don't get their act together with wireless service they won't be around. been using other companies wireless service and it is cheaper and works in place att would not work and would either not dial or constantly drop calls. I don't get that with my new service. But I am sure leadership will deny there is a problem and slap each other on the back and tell each other what a great job they are doing. They are like George Bush in 2007 and trying to tell him there is something wrong the economy and having their hands over their ears and yelling we are not listening.

Sure there will... just might be around 100-150k employees and all we provide is wireless, broadband, business services and streaming content. Majority of buildings sold off and handful leased back, wireline parceled off especially in rural areas. Debt will be paid off, leadership will most likely look a lot different in 2-5 years and a new AT&T will emerge. It’s not going to be your grandads phone company where a person hires in and works at same position and works their way up over a long comfortable career, it’s going to be run by contract labor and highly educated millennials that jump from company to company. Picture a more “project specific” role with “what have you done for me lately” mentality. Trust me, I’m not in anyway excited about this direction but firmly believe this is where we are headed over next ten years. I think people get this idea that AT&T will fail or go bankrupt because the direction is such a departure from the first 10, 20 or 30 years of their career. I believe other companies like Verizon with their wireless focused approach or Disney with their recent launch of streaming services both have a superior approach however AT&T still has a place in the market, unfortunately it might be as the third, fourth or fifth rated provider in an ultra competitive market with half as many employees and greatly reduced footprint.

Make no mistake though, AT&T will be around long after all of us that worked so hard to build it up are gone.

I’d like to milk 5-10 more years out of this beast but not sure I’ll make it, just going to keep working hard until my number is up one way or the other.

In January of 2000 General Electric traded near $56/share. Now, it's a bit over $11. That's what happens when you have poor leadership.. It went from being worth almost $600 billion to $75 billion. Similar to AT&T, their debt peaked at $184 billion in 2008. And they are struggling to sell off parts of the company and reduce costs to be able to pay off the debt. T is doing similar. It's hard to predict what will be left of the company.

Move to the Philippines - they pay our Customer Service Reps a dollar seventy seven an hour and all the rice they can eat.

I like how some of you think you are they key to AT&T surviving. Everyone is replaceable. All the processes are documented. Any job can be outsourced if needed.

If you are in cso you are a golden child and must be some kind of genius lol. Can’t say that with a straight face.

The sad part is they are letting go the ones they need the most to serve customers so it becomes a vicious death spiral. This will cause more customer losses as customer service continues to degrade.
