Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

To all involved in the latest Layoffs

FYI, Don’t forget to cancel your discounted employee services. The day after you are off payroll the company will start billing you full price. Read the policies for severance, bonuses, pension and healthcare because everyone’s situation can be different based on NCS and company they worked for. There are a lot of emotions involved with an involuntary surplus/layoff and some of these details are missed.

I’m prayerful that all who were laid off can find a better opportunity elsewhere. The economy is in the best position in many decades so, even with ageism there is hope. I remain employed for now but am also concerned every quarter with the constant news of layoffs.

Here is wishing your and yours a Blessed Christmas and a better New Year!

@3hvs, 2015 called, it wants its review of T-Mobile's coverage back. Seriously, get a modern phone that sorts their new spectrum and marvel at the difference.

Or try their free 30-Day test drive. You get a free hotspot device to go with it.

T mobile coverage is great now after randy and stank gave them free spectrum.

Try leaving the city once in a while. Do a road trip and you’ll notice what kind of lousy network T-Mobile has.

Do you really believe that lay-offs are based on stack rankings? I know dozens that got letters within 3 years of M75. They all had c-appy rankings until they were close to the brass ring?

Left earlier this year for a competitor. Cancelled my att mobile services the same week. Signed up TMO magenta 55+ $70 unlimited 2 phones, N. America roam, taxes and fees included. Using unlocked iPhone 11 series .... Cancelled directv and stream only. Internet went with Comcast $60 - 500 mbps.

"ATT is really expensive compared to the competition. Even with the employee discount, I was still paying more than the "regular" rates for competitors. It shocked me, and I felt like despite my loyalty, I had been taken advantage of."

“Yeah ... but then I’d be stuck on that junk network with junk coverage“

T mobile coverage is great now after randy and stank gave them free spectrum.

30% discount for retirees? if the current employee 50% discount can be beat I can’t understand why retirees are not shopping around for a better deal. and yes AT&T has a bunch of made up fees. I think one fee is for Randy yacht fund. He wants one big enough to land his helicopter on.

The more you know... 1) AT&T is laying off the folk who maintain our network and it’s superiority is waning, 2) If not eligible for 30% retirement discount, you can get similar savings on AT&T Prepaid with Unlimited Plans starting at $50 (and NO taxes or fees), 3) Cricket, Tracfone and StraightTalk use the AT&T networks depending on the device you buy.

@1yhx, the difference is that Tmobile $55 is exactly that with no taxes or fees added. ATT generally adds $15-20 per line of taxes and fees above the stated price. Worst of all, ATT can't even tell you what you're actual monthly bill will be when you sign up for service.

Come on people really 55 for unlimited at t mobile is higher than att for any of their 3 unlimited services. I would check att again. I kept them.

@vlz is example number one why college hires should run far away from att. It is not a normal environment and people get their jollies seeing other people get outsourced and think because they didn't get selected they are some genius. No worries att will eventually eat their own and will eventually fail. it has been proven time and time again. my advice to college folks is run far away from att and never look back. even if it is more money than your other offers it is NOT worth it because you have to work with people like @vlz.

Changed to another cellular provider and saved half what I was paying for me and wife even with my discount. Changed to another internet provider and got 10 times the speed I was paying for even with my discount at the same price. Changed from DirecTV to a streaming service and saved half what I was paying. Allowed me to add 6 more specialized streaming services to give me A LOT more selection for essentially that same price I was paying for just DirecTV. Someone in a previous post mentioned that celluar service has become a commodity. Actually, cellular, internet and entertainment (cable/streaming) have all become commodities. I'm retired now and need to watch my budget. I was amazed at how much more I was paying before even with my discount compared to what's available. One of ATT's problems is overpriced services in a commodity market with the only different being the ATT brand. No wonder we have been having so many problems.

I don’t have AT&T for mobility and get reception in AT&T buildings. Also just connect to the public wifi if available in the buildings and use wifi calling.

“After being outsourced, I lost just part of my discount for cell service. There is still a retiree discount. I will keep using AT&T until I really retire because the reception in AT&T buildings is important.“

Even if you are not laid off your should shop around for your service, especially mobility. Mobility is very expensive even with the employee discount and the additional bogus fees. The mobility networks are basically a commodity now, go with the lower cost provider.

@vlz

There are 3 different employee lay-off situations;

  1. Union = based on title, location, seniority or they put in for SIPP.
  1. L1-L4 = based on MR75, politics, rebadging, outsourcing, nepotism, then possibly competency or take MVO.
  1. L5-CEO = politics, nepotism & possibly competency, but this is the golden parachute crowd, financials & healthcare aren’t an issue.

I voluntarily left ATT earlier this year.

Prior to my leaving, I'd never even looked at competitors services, both for TV, internet, and cell service.

ATT is really expensive compared to the competition. Even with the employee discount, I was still paying more than the "regular" rates for competitors. It shocked me, and I felt like despite my loyalty, I had been taken advantage of.

I cancelled several of my ATT services immediately, and have a plan to get rid of all of them.

Well check your options. If AT&T is best in your area and in your budget keep them. If not then switch. Y’all can Thumb this down as much as you want but it’s the truth. Everyone that’s laid off is at the bottom of the stack ranking. It is what it is. Sometimes you’re just not that good compared to your peers or your manager doesn’t like you 🤷‍♂️. The economy is good so you should be able to get another job. It is what it is.
