Parents got scammed into colleges. They wanted the best for their kids and railroaded then into school or at least that is what happened in my generation. Now everyone had to go to college and gets saddled with a ton of debt for an entry level job.
My father, his father etc were all military then blue collar. He must have said at least once a week he’d brake my hands if I ever thought about using them to make a living. I had to go to school and get an office job or his sacrifice was for nothing. Living in a good school area and sacrificing as one must.
Now when I was a kid work was bad for him and there were months without a paycheck but for the last twenty he had had a great job he likes and is a steady check. Very different from my experience in corporate land.

If you would like to see a microcosm of our company, view this thread. Everything from c-apping on military and blue collars, to rah-rah we’re all the same inside.

@12tNavb4-3vvq, is that directed at military lifers or company lifers?

I think military people have something to offer.
I think degreed people have something to offer.
I think HS graduates have something to offer.
I think people who went the GED route have something to offer.
I think people who attended cyber-college from a desk at home have something to offer.
There's a place for everyone, and the diversity that comes with how we all arrived here is beneficial.

Have to laugh at the guy who touts a bachelors degree. Seriously?
So you paid to get this job, essentially.

I would take ANY military experience over ANY degree. And anyone who lived life would probably do the same.

You got scammed into thinking college was a golden key, and like many others, now you insist it has value.
Disparaging a military background is typical of college boys and girls, because they tend to always remain boys and girls.
I have neither military experience, or a degree, but son, I know which horse wins that race.
Take your super valuable degree, and see what the world thinks of it. Good luck with that

@3jag

Big deal.....There are plenty of employees with degrees bought and paid for by Verizon's tuition fund and while you were on your hands and knees with a staple gun attaching wires to a wall or looking at your eyelids in that truck that person volunteered their time left, their families and put their lives in harm's way with a real gun. I'm pretty sure he can manage you.

Freedom isn't free.

@12tNavb4-3acw Makes sense they haven't had a job for over 20 years straight with good pay, great benefits with a retirement pension AND matched 401K.

Stop complaining about this job folks a lot ( and I mean a lot ) of you are extremely fortunate to have it.

What would you be doing otherwise if you weren't given this job 20+ years ago?

That's right it was handed to you.

now you're complaining?

Lately there is a big push for new managers from the street telling workers that they are lucky to have this job. What a joke

Because there are too many employees in the boroughs that treat the job as if Verizon owes them something.

Incredible abuse of sick time.
Never on time....always late.
Personal time before company time.
Zero effort put towards their job.
Always excuses, scams, and deceptions.

These employees wouldn't have a job a McDonalds for a week if they lost their very well paying job with full benefits at Verizon that affords them their look at me exotic cars.

Verizon owes them nothing....they very lucky to have a job at Verizon.

That’s right, it’s just the year end reign of terror, nothing unusual. They’ll round a few up, then let them go.

It’s to “encourage” those who didn’t take this last offer to take the next one. Same old same old.
