AT&T to raise prices on its DirecTV, U-Verse as ‘programming costs continue to increase’

The Dallas telecommunications and media company is set to raise costs in 2020 for consumers on some packages for DirecTV, which is delivered over satellites, and U-Verse, its traditional competitor for cable companies that run over wires. Hold on to your wallets!!

@txi - dumped uverse it was just getting more and more expensive with less programming. they did a good job making the customers wanting to dump uverse. went to cable for tv and internet less cost and better programming. still keep hulu and netflix around but I will never go back to att for anything.

Randy and Stanky personally went and knocked on the doors in Randy's neighborhood of Crespi-Hicks. And asked them if they would be willing to pay $500 a month for a premium mobile, internet and TV entertainment packages. They all said yes. So they have done their real world research. Trust them.

“We only want to keep profitable customers. No more promotion customers.” Will there be enough profitable customers left?

they seem to think that raising the price automatically means they will move to OUR streaming services.... but p-ss-d off customers are not going to want to give ATT more money with so many other streaming options. i see people on social media complaining about this news already and how they cant wait to drop at&t completely.

Upper management have already made it plain and clear they are focusing on the Higher Value customers and shedding the customers "just here for promotion prices" - they have roughly 18M willing to pay Higher Prices .. .why not do it?

Randall and the boys already said they are doing all this at the last earnings meeting .. this shouldn't be any surprise .. The Tiffiny of cable companies .. remember ?

They need to coat their EBDITA somehow right? Heaven forbid they do it they way NORMAL businesses do it by attracting more customers ...

I’m keeping my U-verse tv until they pry it out of my cold dead hands! I have FTTP and it works flawless!! Big mistake buying old tech DIRECTV....U-verse tv is a good product they should have invested more in infrastructure with fiber they would had zero issues with it!

Good thing AT&T has Warner Media for the programming cost increase.

That’s one way to sunset U-verse, which is what was led to in the town hall meeting.......price it out of existence.

At some point a price raise = customers canceling their service
regardless of the reason why the company is doing it.
