Knowing what you know about the company now, if you were offered a job here for the first time today would you accept it or reject it?
I'm personally on the fence - working conditions are horrible, there is absolutely no job security, but I'd lie if I said I didn't like the pay...
As a Permtech, I truly believed this was a great job with a future when i was hired. I figured I would come to work, work my tail off and pay my dues and have a great career and hopefully advance to a core represented field position.
If only I knew then what I know now, I would never, ever, have joined up for this godawful daily hell. From the very start Permtechs have been Randall's cannon fodder, to be worked and abused like field slaves while through it all ignored and neglected by the union that they pay dues to.
When customers or people I meet in the field ask me about working for AT&T, I tell them, if AT&T ever offers you a job - don't just walk away, RUN! Run like h#ll!
It depends. Per AT&T, AT&T is a holding company whose subsidiaries and affiliates operate worldwide in the telecommunications, media and technology industries. So, it depends on what subsidiary, what pay, and what kind of work.
AT&T has both products of the future, such as wireless and fiber, and obsolete products, like landline telephony. If I was starting out, I'd want to be aligned with a product line of the future.
When I started here 25 years ago we were treated reasonably well. I remember when I made my first $1000 paycheck after working a good bit of overtime I thought I had hit a gold mine and decided to stay. Bellsouth listened to their workers & they kept us informed about what was going on. They trained us, trained us, and trained us some more. But if I had known then what I know now, I would have spent my younger years doing something more worthwhile. At my age it takes all of me to come in here and put up with this medieval, toxic leadership that exemplifies AT&T. The regrets eat at me every single day. I get on my hands and knees every night and pray that justice is served to these awful human beings that call themselves leaders.
No comparison really, to when I started. 38 years. Most positions were decent with good people. Raised my family, paid the bills, saved and learned at every turn. Now, I don't care. I'm leaving this stagnant hell hole!
I left ATT voluntarily earlier this year.
I found a job in a completely different field, though doing similar work to what I did with ATT. While I took a bit of a pay cut... my total responsibilities are maybe 1/4 of what I had at ATT for slightly more money. These last few months have been like a vacation, with a much healthier work environment.
Leading me to wonder if I was being seriously underpaid for the work I did at ATT.

People who’s kids about to graduate in IT field, tell your kids to do their research, all of us tend to look for Fortune 500 companies, but there is a lot of not so known companies that been here for a long time pay wayyyy more and are more stable.
My son is about to graduate from a top school with a double major in math/comp sci. I have told him to avoid AT&T, IBM, and Oracle like they are cancer (because they are). If you choose to work here out of school then you're an id–t and deserve to work at any of these places.
There are SO MANY better opportunities elsewhere for the same money.
I was a very happy employee at AT&T and I thought he pay was great, and honestly I am still grateful to AT&T about a lot of things.
That being said I was part of the layoff, and I had a couple of interviews (not successful unfortunately), one of the questions at the interview was what’s you pay expectations, and started by saying I am bringing a lot of experience from AT&T i was making this much and I am not expecting less....the guy looks at me, swallow his laugh and said start pay here for your position is 30K more. Put my whole world upside down, swallowed my pride if if wasn’t the second interviewer I would have begged to s— his D for the job(just joking). Now I see things a little different

My daughter is in college and I have told her to look at different companies. The phone company was great until Randle took over. I'm 3rd generation phone company on both sides of my family but I think I'm the last one. I just dont see why a young college grad would come to this company. The training is not what it used to be years ago. If anyone is learning anything from those 2020 videos they are either lying or just not very smart. I retired last year and am so glad I dont have to put up with the useless c-ap. I felt very fortunate to be there but the last 4 years were hell IMO. But I really wish you all the best. I worked with some really good people as a 1st level. It was the VP and above that was lacking.
They would have to pay me a lot more because the places I have worked since att are night and day. I have not heard the phrase outsource or layoff since I left att and it had been awesome. Also been treated like a human at both places total 180 from att. But I probably wouldn’t because I know there are a lot better environments with better pay and benefits. Att is definitely not normal no other place uses outsourcing as a management tool except maybe Disney. If randy and Stankey were gone and att became more ethical as it treats its customers and employees who are not related to anyone along with the stopping the practice of selling employees and outsourcing.I would be more on the fence but in the end I would probably would not. The environment would have to do a 180 from where it is now because no amount of money is worth the shenanigans they pull.

would work here again in a minute, yes times are tough, but most companies are dealing with same issue, grass is not greener elsewhere. The have paid me well to do my job, I show up every day and do the best I can, somedays tougher than others, I worry about Surplus everyday, been on a list or two over the last year or so but have been lucky, I realize at some point my number may come up, but all I can do is come everyday and do my job, cannot control the other things
Well, i would. If you think ATT is the only ones that treat employees like this then you are wrong. It is in every job market. Welcome to corporate America. Their new log is " If they don't like your job you can leave because we have 10 people in back that will do it. Or we will send it overseas.
You'd be foolish not to accept a job if you had no alternatives.
But If I had an offer with AT&T and another company with similar pay and benefits while working in a similar role? I'd absolutely take the job at company X over AT&T.

The next year or two will be bad as the talented and knowledgeable people run for the hills leaving a group of shell shocked contractors to clean up the mess.
Want to work for AT&T in IT? Wait a couple of years until the dust settles.
