Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

FBO Harassment

I am so tired of this rotting organization. Heard last week that employees who are being surplused next year after training their Accenture replacements are treating the 1st and 2nd lines who are keeping their jobs like c-ap.

WTH? Those people had zero say in who is kept for now. Most of them will lose their jobs in late 2020 or early 2021 as well. It's like being in prison and getting p*ssed at the prisoner who gets paroled on Monday because you don't get paroled until Friday.

If you want to be angry and lash out, please save your anger for Arison, Weaklend, her direct reports, and the people who are doing the outsourcing plans. Plenty of Vichy directors and AVPs to be angry with.

so glad I work for a company whose priority is hiring American workers. haven't heard the word outsourcing or laid off in years and it is such a normal environment total 180 from att.
everyone who thinks they survive the outsourcing or is never on a list to be surplussed thinks they are "special" and an expert in their field. what a joke.

Non-management is not part of the Accenture outsourcing.

Management has treated hourly like cr-p for years. It’s hard to shed a tear for managers left behind. Comments like “ we pay you well enough to treat you as we please” tend to set the standard for how you communicate across that wall.

Excellent points on the surplus - thanks for the suggestions.

It's all verbal in FBO, no actual letters yet, just told on calls what quarter you will get it. "Knowledge transfer", no rebadging. Just like Disney did to their IT back in 2015.

They've been really careful to keep everything undocumented.

Some people will try very hard to do a good handoff, because they think they might be kept or because they are worried about our client groups and customers.

The people who are surplused first quarter are the only ones training replacements right now, and it's going quite poorly. Accenture signed up to automate emails and spreadsheets, not to do knowledge work, research, or make business decisions.

If you get surplused you will get a letter. Mine did NOT say anything about me training any replacement. Therefore I did not train anyone. If they had asked me to train someone like a contractor I would have made excuses to not do so. If they directly confronted me about it I like to think I would have told them to review my Surplus Notification Letter for requirements related to this request.

Here is what my surplus letter said:
Throughout the past several weeks we have been evaluating certain business units within the AT&T family of companies. After a thorough and careful review, we have determined that the position which you currently hold will be eliminated. This is due to a reduction in positions within your level and organization. As a result of this decision, you will be placed on surplus status, effective the day following the date that appears at the top of this letter, and you may receive severance benefits if you meet the eligibility criteria.

Then the letter went into resource information for me about being surplused. Support Pkg and Sev Pay.....etc. Nothing about me training any replacement.

So.....My suggestion is you avoid and then reference them to your Surplus Letter and force them to produce legal docs which were provided to you as a surplus employee where it states YOU MUST TRAIN YOUR REPLACEMENT. My guess is they will back off and drop the topic.
And...........If you are surplused I would immediately tell your boss you need most if not all your time to work on your surplus situation and finding another job. Don't let them force you to keep doing your normal workload.

This whole company has become toxic. Employees are understandably upset and lashing out at anyone they can blame for this fiasco, low level managers are an easy accessible target.
