Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

AT&T to cut wages of union workers of west coast region.

AT&T management today informed union rep 2 workers that their wages will be lowered to rep 1 levels after the contracts one year protection expires. It was determined after company studies that certain groups that handle complex financial transactions are no longer tiered workers. Plus the company failed to notify CWA union before announcements were made. Company also ignored cost of living accounts for the most expensive areas in the country. So average worker will lose up to 6,000.00 per year.

Finally the annoucement was made before Christmas. Happy Holidays.

$6,000 per year is the dividend payment on 12,000 shares of ATT stock. Maybe the CWA can offer wage protection in the form of ATT stock dividends. CWA would hold the shares and pay YOU the dividend.

I don’t understand. I thought craft had contracts that gave them ironclad wages. I never heard of their pay being reduced mid-contract.

Overpaid is not a word that should be used to describe any craft workers. From business office to outside techs they earn every penny they make. If you’ve never had an unreachable sales quota month after month then you wouldn’t get it. If you’ve never had to get out of the garage to get to your job site when every school is closed because of an ice storm you wouldn’t get it. If you’ve never hauled a ladder around in -10 degree weather to get to that rear lot line terminal you wouldn’t get it. If you’ve never had to go down into the nastiest manholes to work on cable you wouldn’t get it. I’ve got the utmost respect for all men and women who work under conditions that are not always ideal. Wish you could work just one day in their shoes. Just sayin.

No such thing as lazy or over paid. T hired me to do a certain job and that’s what i do. I never understood the people that want to be captain save a T.... if the company wants and need more functions done, then they should hire more people, its that simple.

If the contract contains a one year wage protection provision, that provision constitutes notification. I don't understand the mystery here. I've had wage protection, and when the protection expires I got the wage I was being protected from.

i read that its part of the companies part to reduce labor cost company wide to increase profit. Also there is still time to identify if the company actual has the support to state that certain teams are doing the work and that will be up to CWA to work out with T.

No one is overpaid here if you are doing the work the company agreed to pay you to do and vice versa.
