Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

AT&T Stock buy

a very savvy player sees upside in AT&T. Second, the company realized Elliott wasn’t going away and had decided to work with them. And third, the trend for company earnings was up.

All three were affirmed with AT&T’s third quarter numbers and guidance. Under the plan, the company will separate the roles of chairman and CEO, cut debt to just 2 times cash flow, sell up to $10 billion in assets, swear off acquisitions, buy back 3 percent of its shares annually and continue low single digit dividend increases.

With shares trading at just 10.6 times expected 2019 full-year results and 8.3 times the mid-point of 2022 guidance, we’re comfortable raising our buy target to $40.

didn't you read the wall street analysis recently with a rare "sell" rating, that said T exec's overpromised and can't possibly deliver their claimed EPS and revenue growth in coming quarters, causing "massive cost cutting pain in every corner of the business" to at least hit the EPS figures even if revenue figures miss?

Rest assured if vultures like Elliott are circling in the sky above AT&T it is not a sign of a robust business. They only prey on the weak. You don't see them circling Alphabet do you? They can smell a poorly managed company from miles away. They swoop in and use a combination of carrot and stick incentives to get the execs in line and pick the carcass clean of any value. The top guys will make out like bandits because they cooperate with the looters. Plata o plomo, just like like the cartels. When they are done looting AT&T it will resemble ToysrUs or Sears. Count on it. It's how end stage capitalism "creates value". And because people still have a simple child-like faith in the magic of "free markets" they go along with it. It's just theft by men in suits with business degrees from fancy schools. If anyone tells you different they are either a mark or in on the scam.

Unless you spend all your time following financial news and trade single stocks, just stick to mutual funds and sit back for the long haul.

OP's "a very savvy player..." isn't what buying an individual stock is about. It's speculation, especially for anyone that can't play the daily game and reading everything about the stock. And that includes knowing everything about competitors. Good luck on that "strategy."

att is not a growth stock. if you want a dividend then it is a good stock for now but who knows what the future holds for it.

Chairman & Ceo should get 50% / 50%. Of what Randall makes. Is this why Randall is leaving?

Sometimes a stock is cheap because the underlying company is mismanaged garbage. Buyer beware.
