Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Leave AT&T and watch your life improve

I'm speaking from personal experience. Two years out of this place and my quality of life has skyrocketed. I enjoy my work again, I have enough free time to spend with my family, and my health has improved drastically - I was even able to get off a medication I thought I was stuck with for the rest of my life.

I still have so many friends at AT&T who are so unhappy. I know making a decision is hard, especially when the alternative is one big unknown. But just ask yourself, how much worse can it really be?

I was surplused 1st quarter this year, found a great job that care about their employees. I’m happier, healthier and come home non-stressed about being laid off and about my medical coverage. I only came here as I was told by a coworker who is still at At&t that voluntary packages are due tomorrow and has not heard of anyone leaving in the organization. Worked with great people and still have contact. There is life after At&t, take it from me impacted after 20 years just shy from retirement with them. Felt I was thrown to the curve.

I agree with the original poster. I left about two years ago too - after 22 years. I moved to another state and work for a different company. I feel valued, don't stress every day about the next layoff, and of course, not everything is green on the outside, but compared to AT&T and my life there in the last 3-4 years, I am extremely happy to have left. The company leadership team have ruined lives and they are still making millions of $$$ - what a shame. They need to be punished and pay for what they did to this great company: Bell Labs and what the AT&T name represented back in the old days... so sad to have these shameless leadership team ruin this great company.

@1yug - you believe everything that people are saying in these posts? Apparently the workers he left two years ago do not believe him since they are still with the company after him telling them about the marvelous world he found when leaving. Wouldn't you have left by now if you believed him?

I was surplused in 2018 from the Govt Sector. Been dedicated for 21 years. Very bad management and corrupt then and was feeling like I failed until I looked into the box in my attic with all of the awards I received and was told it was a dollars and cents decision. I feel so much better with my life as I was under a lot of pressure hearing on conference calls every year about how we are safe this quarter but may need to reduce headcount next quarter and be let go. The management used it as a tool to play ball or else and is no way to live. I am so much happier now because I am no longer controlled and feel that the folks that worked with me feel they will be there forever. They don’t realize one day may be their turn. Can’t take away my experience, only the paycheck and I feel in control of my life again instead of being 24X7 at the beck and call of a company that never cared about me anyways. I have also sat in team calls where we were threatened and harassed as well but had no recourse because of the catch 22 of at will employment. Thank God I am no longer a tool and invested wisely while I was there and am on a path to a better future.

I left in Sept after 28 years. I don’t miss the stress of all the instability, layoffs and poor management. I was hired on by one of AT&T’s competitors with a 15 percent increase on my base. I don’t miss the stupidity of Stephenson, Donovan or Stanky. It is a well known fact that they are worst management for any tech / media company. I wish my ex-colleagues good luck in this toxic environment. There is a good life outside of this horrid company.

I retired from AT&T and my life improved. Does that count?

Well said! The minute you leave your life will improve. Take from someone who left a year ago and I’ve never looked back!

Agree with the original post. Work ethics are important to my new employer. Perhaps I should have left AT&T much sooner.

The COBC does not apply to upper management, they can waive it anytime they want. Read the fine print!!!

Upper management are by far and away the biggest violators of the COBC

You left two years ago and still feel the need to post here? That's sad.

@znp: who is using the company credit card for personal use? not only is it against cobc but it’s illegal.

Not if you are upper management and you get a free car, free gasoline, free benefits, free golf trips to the Masters and Pebble Beach, free telecommunications, free home security and the ability to use the company charge card for personal use!!

Great post you don’t realize how bad att is until you work somewhere else. What you think is normal is complete opposite.
