Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

You may, or may not be laid off, however, You Matter!

Anyone else find it hard to concentrate on the task at hand when everyone is getting called to an all hands on deck meeting and told they may or may not be laid off? Your career and livelihood hangs in the balance, that is all. We plan to severely & negatively impact you, your life's plans and family. Please remember, You Matter!

Was one of the ones on the "safe" list this time. Laid off twice before, but that was phone call, turn in your stuff, out the door. I hate hearing the sadness and disappointment in peers voices. And I can't say anything without sounding hypocritical. Just march em out, give em severance, and let them get on with their lives. Have a heart.

Like in war, you flank you opponent on both sides and then from the rear to keep them off balance. All the years of layoffs is to keep those that "made it this time" from slacking. "Your the team we wanted to keep and you'll have to pick up the work of those that left." Bogus. Leadership needs to be the first out the door.

Actually, getting laid off still does mean that You Matter.

You Matter getting laid off:

  1. Reduce headcount
  2. Pay H1B Visa worker less salary
  3. Your replacement will have far less benefits than we paid you
  4. We 'freshened' our workforce with your departure

See, You Matter!

Sincerely,

RS, and the John's

Dear Team,

YOU MATTER! Until you don't and I lay you off. But until then, lets get those performance metrics up and make the company lots of money!

Never ever seen an environment of the likes. Talent walks out the door, voluntarily and involuntarily, but yet it falls on deaf ears. Customers are the red headed step children more of a nuisance than anything else having to service them and all. The employees are the company’s worst enemy with salaries and benefits and all that just eat up the bottom line for Sandy Stockholder.

Yep wasn’t going to put up with that nonsense. T will have to pay the piper sooner or later for treating people like they do. I hope college hire come to this site and see how att treats their employees before accepting a job with the deathstar. The can sell their products in India Slovakia or wherever the latest and cheapest labor is they are exploiting. Slime balls.

Those told they "may" be laid off ARE in the targeted group. Perhaps the intent is to give some hope that individuals may be moved to slots recently freed-up by those accepting MVO, but according to Tony Fea, ~3% (of the company? of Fea's group?) are to be laid off in this round.

There was another meeting an hour later for those definitely not being laid off (this round).

Sorry, but their weasel-wording seems to have confused a LOT of people. If you were in the 10 AM CST meeting, you are targeted for layoff, if you were in the 11 AM CST meeting, you are supposedly safe for this round.

Please remember that downvotes affect the messenger, but do not change the (negative, sorry!) message.

Just a bunch of weasel words that legal. Approved for the VPs to read, means nothing, it's bad management practice to keep stringing folks along, these knuckleheads like to talk about leadership this and that but this is like a textbook example of bad leadership.

Let's call a meeting for everyone to tell them that 5% of them won't be here next week, but we won't tell which 5%, but fear up and go about your work.. That's should be great for productivity over the next week. Leadership, pathetic.. I didn't take any management course but I know this is a lousy way to go about it.
