Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Lies and Deceit

Careful. Your boss already knows if you are on the chopping block, despite what they say to you. I’ve seen this company blatantly lie and go after all or a portion of the employee’s unemployment too. Enjoy your time with AT&T, but at the end of the day, it may be them against you. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been with them for one year or 50 years. They will sprinkle some honesty around, but lie to you and deceive you in the end.

Another typical union post where uneducated craft workers abuse management and leadership without having any clue as to what those words mean. I’ve always enjoyed listening to good for nothing union trolls who don’t know any better, talk stupid about managers and leadership in general. Give it a rest please.

This is so true, they will say they are sorry but soon forget all about you when that big bonus check comes in March for cutting you so they can have a nice vacay at Disney with their family..

When a manager leaves the company because of surplus or retirement, or takes his tools back if he’s lucky, no one ever says “ We lost a good manager”. Most the the time you hear about their incompetence and negligence.

I guess the disclaimer is this is mostly the case with a few exceptions. This happened to me. After 15 years(working directly and indirectly for my former boss), he had me working on projects, gave me a great review saying looking forward to working with you in 2020, and encouraged pursuing mindless att training. All the while, my name was already pulled at their manager's retreat. As someone who always worked on my vacations and volunteered to take on additional workload for the sake of helping out and being a team player, this was very eye-opening. If I could give advice to anyone or even pre layoff me, it would be that you should take care of you. Your boss and coworkers are your friends until they aren't.

Managers are good until they are told to be bad. They give the best review they can and whatever pay increase their leadership allows. But when the company says you have to go, they are the messenger. No rational you could put forth at the lower level will ever float to the top where the decision makers are at.

Maybe your boss's boss, or your boss's boss's boss. It is not also your boss, because without direct reports, the boss's job is toast.

But everybody gets to look for work elsewhere in the company.

Your last boss will prove to be the bad boss so it doesn’t matter if you’ve ever had a good boss

Duh. ATT is a company. Do you expect a snake not to be a snake? Wise up - corporations are NEVER for you. It's a big clube, and you're not in it.

Happy to say, not all managers are the way you seem to feel. I've had very good bosses, and some very bad bosses. Not all of them lie. They just can't take the chance to tell you what you think you already know.

Seems like you would feel better if you would try and smile once in a while.

Things could always be worse.
