Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Just read many horrible AT&T TV app reviews...

  • and all I can say is "WOW!" Why is it that all the other apps i.e. Netflix, Hulu, YT TV, etc...work well, but a company that has been around for a hundred years can't seem to make anything consistently work? Do they really expect a viewer to pay dearly to watch 120 seconds of ads every seven minutes? Why does the app chronically buffer when no other apps do? Why no Android compatability? Why is casting so difficult? Of course, you don't have to believe me. Go see for yourself, but don't be surprised when you too have questions arise. One thing is for sure, if all those streaming & design issues aren't fixed soon, AT&T is in for a terrible 2020.

The Android app version works because the company outsourced the development to a major player in the space 10 years ago after the Labs people in Tampa delivered a buggy piece of cr*p on iOS for version 2.0 of Uverse Mobile.

  1. It is available on Android and works pretty well on the phone.
  2. The blackouts happen when you cross DMA boundaries and are regulatory requirements. You just need to reselect the channel and it will jump to a local affiliate.
  3. The ads are awful, long, and bug the app out all the time. At 10 bucks a month it is a decent deal just for 4g LTE sports, but a loser at any other price point.

One thing I don't understand. Why is At&t fighting with ROKU? The At&t Tv app is no longer available to down load on ROKU. If you already have it, you are still ok, but if you delete it, you can not get it back. With At&t tv launching nationwide very soon and unable to download the app, this is just another bad customer experience.

Ordering the Labs people to pole climbing classes for CP09 pretty much eliminated any quality talent left in R&D. Randall and Stankey fired the Labs president after he issued an apology letter to the PhDs and secretaries forced to attend "Poles and Holes".

See! Outsourcing works. LOL.

AT&T "leadership" has, for some time, seen the company as a brand more than a tech company with core competencies outside of marketing. Thus they de-skill internally and look toward outsourcing as a cheap source of labor. To the MBA mentality, everything is just a fungible asset to be acquired at the cheapest price.
They talk incessantly about innovation but the days when they maintained a lab full of scientists doing the kind of work that would lead to the level of innovation comparable to inventing the transistor are long gone.

IMHO, the decay will continue until Elliott or maybe some other vulture capitalist forces it under. There are too many layers of "leadership" that have no clue why cost cutting by eliminating labor costs and nickel and diming the customer isn't working.

All this is irrelevant, AT&T already has a team in India building a new App, and when that one s—s ,another team in Eastern Europe will step in.. All these apps are outsourced to sh–ty agencies, and it doesn't matter , you know why??? because its the content they deliver and AT&T holds the licenses to that, so where else you gonna go to see HBO?????

The app fiasco originated with the Labs people in Tampa who the company inherited from IBM 20 years ago. The back end was outsourced to the Subcontinent.

I stream my AT&T TV Now app for 14 hours a day every day and do not experience any buffering issues, or the likes. The only thing I get that disturbs me is when they black out some program for no known reason. I do have Uverse Internet.
