Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

AT&T touted worker bonuses after $3 billion Trump tax cut. Now it’s outsourcing thousands of jobs

"AT&T touted President Trump’s tax cut and claimed it would result in higher wages for workers. But despite getting a $3 billion tax cut last year, the company is forcing thousands of those workers to train their own cheaper foreign replacements after signing deals with big outsourcing companies."

That was just a generic statement, not a specific promise. Either way, wages have gone up. They latest data from November shows wages up 5.34% in the last 12 months. You are complaining about foreign workers but the unemployment rate is only 3.5% so it can't be that bad. And before you complain those are just low skilled jobs, the unemployment rate in technology jobs is 1.3%. The unemployment rate in Europe is 80% higher than ours, and they all know it's because of Trump's economic policy, just ask them.

If I am not mistaken, our bonus has some ties to debt reduction. Is that why they are using $ for stock buybacks instead of debt reduction? Slimey is what comes to mind.

There is no longer a performance based salary/package with bonuses at risk for the elite. When a company is in trouble or doing poorly It’s just theft. Examples: Enron, Worlcomm, GE, etc... the elites stole from the hardworking employees.

Write your Congress to try and get some regulatory changes, its an election year maybe they will act concerned and mean it. Of course we are fighting lobbyists at K-street too.

I think everyone’s issue is his pay is not commensurate with company results, based on what has/is happened with all the poor decisions, toxic micromanaged environment and all the positions outsourced, rebadged and layoffs. Randall and C-suite should have had a reduction, or laid-off (sudden retirement for c-suite).

That’s the problem with todays corporate elite world, total disconnect with their employees and no accountability. That’s why the word golden parachute was coined, all others pay while C-sure leave with unbelievable packages. Leaders of the past shared equally in the company’s rise or fall. Employees don’t expect perfection just some accountability.

The American employee is no longer fooled by, “We have to compete for the executive talent”. It’s just plain theft, unethical & immoral at the expense of other employees.

"Does this really need a /S tag?"

No Randy it does not need a signature, it is merely a statement of fact.

In reply to poster and Randy being paid everyday, he works very hard. He does not get any days off. If he was being paid overtime or double time I would be concerned. But base pay everyday is fair.

Does this really need a /S tag?

The "bonus" itself was a shell game. All they did was pay everyone $1,000 at the end of the year and then took everyone's raise and decrease it by 1% in March. There was no bonus!

@12M5L4I7-tvg Totally agree. Left on my own when I got fooled into training our help for overnight work. Now I am doing kunernetes for sdn for a company that doesn’t outsource. Tried to get into sdn stuff at att but was never qualified or they could not move me for one political reason or another. I am sure they wanted someone out of college so they didn’t have to pay a pension and benefits as I was nearing the 75 rule.

Dish is installing my satellite this afternoon..I ordered it 15 minutes ago. 6 cell phones moved to T Mobile. If I was not good enough to keep my job, then I am not good enough to be a customer either. I was requested to train my foreogn replacement and told my boss "Not Happening". He understood because the more 1st line job that go overseas, the less 2nd level managers are needed here as well. I stopped all work once i got my notice since it was clear they no longer needed me. I ain't missing it at all...since I've been gone......

@-huw, good point. If I got such a surplus letter, specifically telling me to train my H1B replacement, it simply would not happen, even if they sat right next to me, and followed me into the bathroom. What are they going to do, fire me? There is no real time left before you are gone. You can open an HR case, and drag your heels as well just to really c-ap up the works. Lots of dirty legal tricks to pull. They will become ever so regretful thinking that can degrade and humiliate you in thinking you're going to train the stinky curry swiller that is to replace you.

Probably gave workers an extra bonus that year so the government would get more of the money back since bonuses are taxed at a fixed higher rate. It is nothing but a game to att. Glad I don’t buy their products anymore don’t even care if they are better I know they will always be more expensive to pay for Randy’s creative accounting.

The labor cost reductions at AT&T doesn’t include the C-Suite but are inverse of other employees. The Golden Rule no longer applies to the corporate non-leadership. This trend has been getting worse for decades, this isn’t just a political party but the system of globalism. With the exception of the elite, it’s a race to the bottom for the lowest compensation per job.

The SWAMP is persuasive and is destroying the American families financial stability & mental health. This is evidenced by the rise of addiction overdoses, mental illnesses, despair and homelessness.

The C-suite & Accountants now base your continued employment by age, compensation, severance, benefit package, how close you are to rule 75 or retirement. Competency, hard work, dedication, years of service, good employee, awards, intangibles no longer apply. Everyone is now just a number on a spreadsheet or dashboard to be evaluated according to cost.

Original comments: company is forcing thousands of those workers to train their own cheaper foreign replacements

If your surplus letter does not specifically state that you are REQUIRED to train your replacement then don't do it. Avoid it, tell your boss your too busy to do it and if all else fails just tell the boss it is NOT IN MY SURPLUS LETTER so until HR informs me that I'm legally obligated to train my replacement I opt to simply perform my work until my final day of employment.

I was surplussed in Mar 2019 and I specifically looked for any mention of being required to train my replacement in all the materials I was provided by AT&T. I found no mention of it. And............I did not train anyone.

The only thing you can believe from Randy the RAT & Stanky the SKUNK is when they say they’re going to cut labor cost. Outsourcing, rebadging, Layoffs, Medicare subsidy and more to come. All while getting large tax cuts & government contracts like First Net etc.. worth Billions.
