The full two weeks we can relax and not worry about layoffs. Two weeks out of 52. Unless they decide to take this away from us as well, which wouldn't surprise me at all.

Well you nailed it. Workers carry the burden of worry which impacts productivity. So more workers are hired during the good times and then over time there are too many of us Well that means the favored sons and the young or recent hired are more cost effective. So bye bye we can’t honor you with a proper send off.
Obviously by all the folks on here and posting during the holiday's it is apparent employees are not able to relax and not worry even during the holidays...….
Maybe senior management will reflect on themselves and change but I wouldn’t hold my breath.
There are people leaving with the MVO by Dec 30. Most will leave without farewell parties because too many are on vacation. It's going to be like they disappeared. Offices will be empty, emails to them will fail, weekly meetings they ran will be canceled, transitions to backups non-existent, etc. It reminds of the early 2000s before SBC rescued the mother ship. I am outsourced, so there's not much else they can do to me, Good luck to everyone who is still employed at AT&T. We had a great run.

Don't be naive and think you are safe even for that long.
