Prem Techs are Targeted for 2020

Our 2nd Line (L2) delighted us with Christmas Wishes today.

His wish is that we spend the new year looking though AUTS for any available jobs we could possibly bid for.

Our crews are a mix of IP Techs and Legacy DTV and he point blank stated that we "are the targets for reduction" in the coming year.

Spoke a lot about the projected impact of the Osprey OTT release in February - we got the sense that the company will be pushing this HARD onto any new install inquiries followed by a concerted conversion over the next two years where we shift DirecTV users off the dish and onto the bird.

For the record - our crew said screw AUTS, we are looking at other companies instead - which we have been doing for 4 years now anyway.

Sorry stupid auto spell.....A lot of prem techs in southern Ca are applying at the power companies! Their lowest paying job is much more than a PT makes! There is no future as a PT, move on while you are young enough to do so!! Go someplace where you will be appreciated and treated well unlike AT&T does to PTs!!

Oh I'll be looking for another job alright, but it won't be with this sinking ship of a company. If I were a union represented core technician I would be worried about finding a job with comparable pay and benefits. But I'm one of the CWA's red headed Prem Techs whose been dumped on by this sh!tty company from the very start. It won't be very hard finding something better than this hellhole.

Yeah I can confirm that my neighborhood use to be about 2/3 att wireless access points and they now all say cable company. But this is a middle class neighborhood so we are the deplorable customers att doesn’t want vs the much more acceptable pebble beach golf gang customers. So it is all good.

As a core tech of over 20years a lot of us are ready to leave this sinking ship! 2020 you will see a lot of techs and managers leaving!! Also the interest went down on the gap rate so that’s just more incentive to retire even sooner!! My pension increased by 75k

@eqt - is correct people are dumping att for whatever else is available. att screws up people's bills so much they just had enough and move. and remember stankey said no place is safe and everything will be looked at as far as savings. except of course his bonus and salary.

As much as this s—s at least you have a head start since you got the heads up. Use this time before the announcements to do as much as you can to secure a different job. Doesn’t hurt to look internally for jobs but it can be difficult to jump to a different role inside the company so definitely look externally too. You might end up coming out ahead if you can secure another job and walk away with severance. Good luck!

You have to give the man some credit for being honest and upfront with you. You can now make good decisions. All management and the Union leaders should talk straight to their people.

As a former tech and as a manager I will say AUTS and Career Path is a waste of time... ... what few jobs are posted... they already have candidates selected and is just a formality... or... competition is so great a submission has little chance to be selected... ... it’s a rigged game... no one on the hook has a fair chance on a transfer.... ... in times of surplus both programs have few requisites...

In my neck of the woods, there can be AT&T or cable service. A year ago, I could check the available wireless networks around and see half the SSIDs beginning with ATT and half with the cable guys. Checking this week, I see one ATT SSID and 11 cables.

They have to get rid of the prem techs because there are no customers. And DTV dishes are disappearing too. Cable has a starting internet speed of 200mbps. That technology isn't standing still. The entire copper plant is in trouble. Now in areas where there isn't competition, then things will continue. But, we all have cellphones, so, in competitive areas, we can do our own research and see what's going on by checking the available wireless networks. In my neck of the woods, it is not looking good.
