Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

At least all the laid off people know they lost their jobs for the right cause /sarcasm

The telecommunications giant said on Friday that its board of directors approved a 2% increase in its quarterly cash payout, to $0.52 per share. The new, higher dividend will first be paid on Feb. 3 to shareholders of record on Jan. 10.

Your Clueless and probably should leave your investment decisions to an advisor!

Anyone interested calculating drip (dividend reinvestment) go to these sites and play with the dates.

If one invested 10k in T in Sept 2003, today they would have over 40k and it would have made about 9% annualized.
Same date, same 10k in SPY would be just under 40k and a little under 9% annualized
Start back in 1985 to today and T beats the S&P by allot T 17% vs 10% for spy.
In the 2008 recession T only lost 21 percent where the S&P lost 47%

For SPY go here

RE: "As a retiree with this stock as part of my dividend portfolio, I approve of this move."

Over the last 10 years, T stock has increased about 39%. The S&P 500 has increased 186%. You've missed out on all those gains (plus the S&P also has dividends not included in that percent). Should have chucked it and run a long time ago. It's a dog and who knows when it stops being one.

Don't forget the $billions in stock buy backs to prop up the stock price. There is a reason stock buybacks used to be illegal.

When your job is outsourced to another country, it is not that your service is no longer needed, it is corporate greed...the company is the guilty party, no need to turn on each other.

This increase nullifies the effects of inflation and makes the existing dividend whole to the stockholders. It is a positive move for those holding this stock for dividend purposes.

As long as Stanky and The Rat get a good bonus this year, the sacrifice was more than worthwhile! /S

Rate of inflation is 2%. Stockholders tread water with this dividend increase. It was a 1¢ increase.
