Wells Fargo is still a spreadsheet driven company and it's like living in 1997.
Without giving myself away, they've been trying to automate my team out of existence for about ten years now, but what ends up happening is some half-@ss system is created, after much ballyhoo about how it's the be all end all.
Instead, we end up supporting the system that was supposed to replace us, because it doesn't work as promised.
So we end up with five systems to do the work that we used to do in one.
I'm IT, my job is to automate myself out of work, and that's fine, because something new always comes along to replace the old.
But at Wells, we don't automate ourselves out of work, we automate ourselves into doing the same old work, just in a more complicated manner.
My customers have noticed as well.
No one in IT, from the top down, is getting any awards.
