AT&T Retiree Medical Benefits

Has anyone given thought to what happens or can happen to retiree medical benefits if say T decides to spin off the landline (network) part to some entity with the intent of T trying to unload the cost of retiree medical?

I am legacy SBMS/ Cingular management. My medical "benefits" blow. I am not counting on them (I hit MR75 this year).

Least of their worries. Even to imply T would turn out the lights on a $ 80 billion network in order to relieve them from retiree health benefits is ridiculous.

They can pull the rug out at any time, spinoff or not. They have advised the Unions that they intend to continue to fund the Medicare eligivle HRAs through 2023, whereupon they'll take business conditions into account before deciding on further funding.

The one (and only) think I like about Randall is, I think he wants to keep the promise of retiree benefits going for the employee, if not the employee's family. For Union workers, I think the pre-Medicare benefit is capped at around $12,000.

Being in good health, for 2019 I took the $0 premium high deductible insurance, dental DHMO under $3/month, retiree vision under $4/month.

The value for my insurance option that complies with the PPACA that gets reported to IRS is around $10,000. They put the exact amount in the benefit confirmation letter, so we can appreciate the tax free benefit.

Most people who came form Bellsouth management should have retiree medical benefits. Bellsouth did a much better job for the their employees in the mergers then some of the other baby bells.

T is getting legislation pasted that will k–l the landline wholesale it doesn’t want it to exist anymore. Guess they don’t want someone else to prove it can make money.

A lot of military veterans forget or don’t know they may be eligible for medical benefits. Just a reminder if you are a vet, it’s worth taking some time to find out. You don’t have to have had an injury to be covered. I’m covered for simply being in theatre of the gulf war even though I was on a ship. I waived my medical with att and use my local VA. Also, they now will cover office visits outside of va if you don’t have a va facility close to you. You earned the coverage. Take advantage of it.

Retiree benefits increase every year & so do the deductibles. Insurance companies are simply in the business of taking your money.

Randall would love nothing more than to reduce retiree health benefits. Well, that and having no American workers on his payroll.

The only thing protecting retiree health benefits is the union fighting to keep them at bargaining time.

Retiree benefits can be reduced or taken away at any time. There is no protection. Several of us are too thankful for those benefits. However spinning off the landline has nothing to do with anything retirees. They just want us to all die off.
