At&t laid off our entire (DirecTV ) dispatch center and looking to sell off the DirecTV side of the company after At&t dragged directv’s spotless reputation thru the mud with their terrible customer service practices

When I got surpluses, after two demotions, my Sales Manager surpluses me. I wonder if it was because I caught him blatantly in violation of the schedule of authorizations. Even though it was at the time of the merger, some rules did not change. Our leader demanded we go to dinner together. Time for the check and he asked everyone to give him cash money and he would take care of the paperwork 35 Managers at 50..00 per head? When I asked i received an answer that was a no-answer. Then, the very next week, I was no longer and RVP and suddenly a sales director with a span of two. I asked and and got demoted to an account manager. By the did mention that when I was realigned, I did not get the VERY generous Change-in-control package. I only get regular severance. This genius has been promoted several times, but I guess he is untouchable under Dandy Randy's leadership. Even Stinky will not stand up to him. Asset protection DID not care. So, I hguess I was lucky to get out before.

Did McElfrsh really state that no one who is part of this massive layoff/surplus will be allowed to work for AT&T ever again?

Don’t think for a minute that EVERY business unit is being impacted by the ongoing layoffs when there are technicians still being hired in certain areas of the country! This I know for certain to be true!

The current layoff: what a crock! McCelfresh said no one is allowed back. BS. They mistakenly shared a list of the 800 let go under Mair. Many of them are in new jobs. It is who you know. AVPs arre ITDs, ITDs are Leads but all friends saved!!
Legg: the third legg of the stool guy. Seems funny but seems to have angered Jon Summers as he has brought his own guy from TW to manage CDO which now Jon loses. Arrogant Jon is sulking
Randall: shame on him. He screwed the company with a stubborn TMobil hope that ATT paid lots of dough for and failed to merge. Who paid? The people, not Randall who should have been fired
His other costly mistakes- DTV and TW. He sails off with loads of money and the board does nothing
Board- brings an id–t to review ATT. Seems the last time we all saw him , he was sleeping with the enemy so has done zilch to kick out ALL the current rulers and get fresh blood in. All are steeped in nepotism and cliques. So they keep a lot of money and go home happy. The hard working level twos are k–led. Every time
StanKey the Stinker is another failure who cost us all with his local IPO. Loyal employees Lost hard earned money on the IPO while stinker wanted to shut down NJ. Spoilt brat could not get candy so runs off to CA and now gets Randall’s seat!
All a bunch of no good, self pleasing old hags who know nothing. Yes Dallas club it is! Club of mo–ns!

This thread encompasses several months, so remember that when skimming comment history.
Last week K.Hopkins said publicly that she did not expect any more layoffs this year in her downstream org this year, with the usual caveat ‘things could change’.

  1. Legg (new - CTO and above Hopkins), had an open mic where he said he stopped the planned ‘bloodbath’ layoffs for a few weeks ago in his org since he has different ideas and didn’t want to lose all those people right now. He said there is one ‘small’ layoff for his org sometime in August which was part of the bigger one. This will be 25-50 people total. (BTW - Sorry or congrats to those people - depending on what you had hoped...)

Anyway for those left under him, there were no plans for layoffs beyond that.

will there be a MVO? Is wireless management going to see any surplus? I have reached the age of 62 asked to be surplussed, waiting and hoping for this year.

The body count will be close to 50K. I would ask that anyone that can, dump ATT services. Cellphone, uverse, directv, internet.

I worked there for five very miserable years and was laid off a year ago. Best thing that ever happened to me. I was in senior management. It is a terribly run company, focused too internally on their own politics and not paying proper attention to competitive activity or shoring up their own operations so they can compete. Buy Directv and layoff all the people who know how to run it. Genius. Just one of the many DUMB decisions. So far in debt I can't imagine how they're ever be able to fun 5G build out which means they'll fall even further behind. The big pivot to becoming a content leader is a joke. They don't even know how to run a telco properly and that's all they've ever done. Too many senior leaders. Too many fiefdoms. Too insular (we only promote or like the people who belong to the same country club in Dallas - literally...not joking here). Tens of millions spent on sponsorships they don't even know how to properly activate. It's all ridiculous. My advice to anyone still left there is to start looking. Get out. Do it on your terms before you "have" to. I don't know that the problems there can or will ever be fixed. It's simply too old, too archaic and so far gone it's on a downward spiral. And now Stankey is in charge? Uh...he was the one in charge of Directv. Great track record.

Let's remember they are due to cut 3900 more jobs and close 250 retail stores.

Yet this man has a 6 figure job and no direct reports

1st line,2nd and 3rd level managers are puppets on a string...afraid of losing there jobs and becoming “yes” clowns.Dont care about customer service, quality of work of there techs who perform dally tasks in the field.I have witness 40 yrs of down right thievery in the field, from techs to upper management.Nobody cares, not even your local union, who you pay every month good $$$.Every year the local presidents take a quote “Union conference “ meeting.....in Hawaii....what....and yes on your dime. Now the coronavirus is on stage and Everybody is scared...Glad I’m out and enjoying everyday.Dont get me wrong...AT&T was good....40 yrs ago....not now...good luck to all you techs who only have 20....never make it to 40..

"re: The company paid a big retirement compensation to Randall while laid-off employees to balance the debt. Does anyone remember how Randall lose the bet to buy T-Mobile years ago which caused T sent billions to T-Mobile.

His guaranteed income is $274,000 a month for the rest of his days.

re: What happened to the big tax break money again? That was only 2 1/2 years ago $42 billion dollars.

Where is the press coverage about this? HOW IS THIS MONEY ACCOUNTED FOR?"

All that right there, is the single most infuriating thing I have experience, seen or witnessed in my 58 years on this planet, ever. 23 years with company. I've grown a real hate for RS, and the whole of the top leadership, and the entire BOD. It's all about money extraction from the golden goose, which they k–led during the plunder.

I was hired exactly 20 years to the day before my lay-off.
Great security.... Go Corporate.
I should be grateful for the ability to pay my bills to date (unlike some Americans...) MY KID IS STILL IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM and will need student loans for college. Have that but need 5 more years and required age needed -so even my retirement is SHOT. How do I replace health insurance? Where do I go to start over again? So unfair that this company entered and lost every long shot race.... Thanks Randall. We all could have tightened our belt just a little... Doncha think?

AT&T UK Jobs are being outsourced to an Indian Company and they certainly are making a shambles of it, god help those that's are left having to deal with the fall out and all of our suppliers.
Quick training session and they take the work. Years of knowledge down the drain.
We'll be a laughing stock !

The old bellsouth 9 states are going to loose between 700-900 people in the 4th quarter. The buy out being offered now will be offered to a wider group if not enough people take it before the 4th qtr. The final number depends on a dollar amount saved. The more senior higher paid people removed will reduce the final number. The first notices will be sent out 6/15. Management has been told when they are notified they will not make accommodations for them and have 2 weeks to leave.

It was under the Fuetsch org that layoffs would be after July 4th.

I was downsized in 2018. I was in management. Once I was surplused I had two months to find a role. I applied for 2 positions in the retail stores. I interviewed for both. One of the roles was given to another retail assistant Mgr. Area Mgr requested I apply for the assistant Mgr position which I did. They ended hiring a much younger inexperienced employee. If you enter a retail store most employees are young. I was over 50 a woman of color with 20 years of service. The Director in Noertheast WI has a reputation for not hiring older employees. Prior to be cut, a peer was downsized and reapplied for a non-mgt retail store associate. Prior was a manager with 16 years experience in the same products. I asked a retail associate from the same store what the reputation is for hiring older employees. Comment was they don’t hire older workers period. Those of us under a protected class should file a class action suit on age discrimination. Who should I call.

You are not sure which org the open mic was for but you know what was said? Notices after July 4, does not seem like something they would say.

There was an open mic for one ATO IT org today, in the labs I believe, it was said notices would go out after July 4th and would be significant. Maybe HR can’t process and legal review all the layoffs in time for this month. My guess is also there is still discussion on who will go, maybe the list is 90% there and decision makers vying for the last spots for their people.

When a company is focussed on remaining relevant by drastically reducing employees and not growing by creating new services, it's trouble!!

I was told by a manager they are working with the understanding that payroll has to be reduced by 40% across the board. Per employee averaged cost across the whole company is @250k and they need it to be $150k. This can't be achieved by getting rid of field techs only its simple math. All of management is very worried this next go round and if they're not they're dumb enough to be promoted.

Just saw the memo put out by the CWA. Offering FT, ST, DT, OPT and other comm techs a $50k buy out. Wire techs get c-apped on once again with a $5k offer. Good luck maintaining and installing the prem networks w/o good wire techs

I was laid off after almost 33 years last month. At first i was devastated but you know what, life goes on and i always follow one simple rule - karma is a b–ch and those who made the decision after the ceo gets well over 200K a month for life will see karma bite them. All of us are worried how to make ends meet but those with a golden parachute are sitting pretty.

Yes AT&T plans layoffs people will be noticed to accept retirement plan not as generous as Randall gets. Also there are some projects moving jobs outside of US into India (there is a big contract with WIPRO group to move some support etc). There are some plans with automation so we will see how that goes.

AT&T however is very generous with Randall and his retirement plan. Honestly, i would kick his a– and give him nothing - Honestly Randall, Stankey, Chow, Donovan almost ruined company with id–tic decisions like - hey let's buy TimeWarner. Now we are chasing every single dollar, cutting costs, cutting workforce.

Open Mic with Hopkins today, she stated there were no plans or lists yet for her org, but in the “next month or two” we would see other orgs hit first. Not sure I trust that, but that’s what was said.

My team is releasing 6% in 2nd quarter. We already released 6% in 1st quarter layoffs. We lost 16% in 2019, and 20% in 2018. So yeah, the hits just keep on coming.
