Any new information? I’ve heard that the initial TFS reorg is mostly mgt. The crew surps & combo crews happen 1st quarter. Not a lot of info on DEG

It's about time for these DEG techs to pull their weight and start actual work.
DEG’s gonna be on the load pretty quick cause they running out of grease.
Like I stated before .....DEG already has a HUGE workload with crews cut to the bare bones. Obviously most don’t have a clue what we do. Batteries are a huge issue, as we don’t have the manpower to stay up on routines! Customer prems have batteries exploding on a regular basis as they go on thermal runaway. Some areas, are as far as 3 or 4 years behind on routines that are supposed to be done annually. Rurally there are ALOT of Fuji, SLC, ERDSEL and some Litespans working on COPPER....the maintence with horrible condition of our plant is endless! “A” cases abound! Believe it.... you’ll be helping us ALOT more then we will be helping you!!
DEG has extensive splitter expertise required in GPON installation orders. Besides there’s a shortage in orange battery grease anyway. TFS will keep you busy.
Copper is still in the picture for years to come, dsl, pots, cell sites, business, T1’s, internet, pcdata etc.. 2020 was a fantasy for shutdown. It seems upper management is k–ling the golden goose that laid the golden egg. Just because it’s older tech doesn’t mean it’s not valuable
Obviously newer technologies are replacing TDM but there is still a lot of money to be made on the old facilities. More marketing, maintenance & better explanation to our customers about migration to new systems would go a long way towards better customer understanding the transition.
Most companies or countries would give their right arm for the revenue generated by AFO.
Deg will turn in their battery grease a cbit stickers for a ladder and drop. Time to get to work.
Some of the posts on this thread are laughable to say the least. It's obvious that some of the posters are AFO-Core techs and premise/wire techs who really have no clue as to what DEG and Business techs do every day. The truth is that over the last 20 years, the DEG environment has shifted much more towards the expense side of the business and away from capital build. The installation and TTU of new SONET and NGDLC systems has all but ceased completely in most areas as we shift toward PON (Most OLT systems are deployed in the Central Office with only a handful being turned up in the field) and edgeless service deliveries. Most of the national E-MUX buildout has slowed considerably since Business Services Specials techs took over small EMT installation & maintenance. What's left is a huge aging and complex SONET/NGDLC/SLC infrastructure in the local loop that requires constant maintenance to operate efficiently and reliably. DEG techs will have work for years to come. They will just be more focused on network maintenance which is why it's being moved to AFO-Business, that organization which generates huge revenue for the company, is still considered to be within the AFO umbrella which is expense driven.
Copper DEG facilities are in the same boat as a lot of the old Legacy facilities. Lot of unused capacity and the company is not going to re-engineer the entire system to right size the existing plant., especially with the continuous downtrend in customers on those facilities. Basically a necessary evil due to still having a lot of customers on those facilities. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize that the fill rate for copper cables go hand in hand with the fill rate for copper huts.
DLC would love to do GPON. We are tired of chasing door alarms & playing the musical chairs game with system components. Rob Peter to pay Paul. Have at it Specials
@1ivs...well since Specials already has MLT, they are going to pick up door alarms, battery grease, and Cbit stickers, so the Do Little Crew will now have plenty of time for GPON
DEG being assigned GPON work??? My friend we have WAY more work then we have bodies!!!
Wasn’t trying to pick a fight my friend. Just stating obvious and factual information about the reorg’s as they are today. I can’t predict the future in 2020 so I didn’t try.
DEG is assigned residential Gpon work as of 10/04/19 due to their extensive splitter knowledge.
@RO-met
Hey Know-IT-All, as I stated in an earlier post. There are some DTV & IEFS mgrs. (L1 & L2) being moved into TFS I/M repair. I did confirm on webphone in my direct hierarchy. Just because your world wasn’t changed doesn’t mean others hasn’t, webphone isn’t the Bible for all things. We are being told more changes in the 1st quarter of 2020.
The reorg has also affected district size, core techs reporting manager & expansion of work assignment area ie ... no turfs. Managers are also cross training with their peers to learn their job. Can you say, more surpluses?
DEG,DTV & IEFS merging ,TFS/CORE outsorce to Accenture, while I&M merging with TS Core
TFS/IEFS AND BUSINESS SERVICES ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT GROUPS
DEG will be moving over intact at the Area Manager level. This means that each regional AFO-Business Director will have responsibility for DEG, Special Services, Managed Services/CPE post 1/1/2020.
As always, you need to look at corporate hierarchy and webphone before posting here. The TFS/IEFS merger-reorg only affected Prem techs (wire techs in the SE), DTV and BSW from IEFS and Core I&M, Cable Repair, Air Pressure, Central Office and CO-Power from TFS core. They have been combined into AFO East/AFO West at a national level as of Tuesday Oct-1 with Webphone changes taking place yesterday to reflect. AFO-Business ( VP-Locus) remains a completely separate entity within the AFO-East structure under SVP Flores. Per the announcement yesterday, all DEG (Digital Electronics Group in Construction & Engineering) functions will be migrated to (or absorbed by-however you want to think of it) AFO-Business under VP John Locus effective 1/1/2020.
Reshuffle & reshuffle the deck. When is the magic going to appear on this rebuilt wheel? It appears to have become square.
There are some DTV & IEFS (wire tech)’ Mgrs being moved into TFS I/M Repair groups. Seen L1 & L2 so far
