What motivated you to quit your job?

What was the final straw? I'm hoping for some inspiration... I'm too scared to quit just yet, but who knows...

You know all the BS that some through email. The things your boss doesn’t want to say out loud? New initiatives, new ways to micromanage, and new ways to cut the middle leadership out of every single choice. I used to be considered a leader with ideas and thought but no more. So one day in May I received about 4 “new” ways to micromanage my team that I had to follow and then a schedule where I had to plan out locations to visit a month in advance and put then on a shared drive. Literally couldn’t do my job like this. I went where I was needed. That last email was it. I typed up the letter immediately. After giving the company half my life I couldn’t just be a robot who followed directions that led them to less success and less money. So Bye

I recently received an 4x6 acrylic picture holder with a perforated piece of cardboard in it congratulating me for 25 yrs service.

I hit 25 yrs 4 yrs ago.
The cardboard was crooked in the holder.

When my father retired ( at 25 yrs btw), he was treated to a lunch at THE upscale restaurant by his manager, and the following day his entire office was given a catered party, complete with speeches and gifts. His manager called a few weeks later to see if he had any problems with pay or benefits. Well wishers called, sent cards, arranged golf outings for months afterwards

I was a young teen at the time and remember my father saying to me “you see? This is what a real company does. They take care of employees so employees take care of them”

Dad, you were 100% right. ✌🏻

This is not the same company I joined over 20 yrs ago. Left back in June and am so glad I did. I could not stand the lack of leadership, the uncaring attitudes, and the feeling of not being appreciated. A bunch of us left in june....some with over 20 years of service. When we left, not one of us got as much as an email, visit to our cubicle by the manager, or even a text message to say "thanks" for all those years of dedicated work. We were just ignored and we walked out the door while the manager hid in his office. That's VZ leadership for you... Get out and dont look back...you will be glad you did.

Ready to retire..motivation?, coming to terms life is short, and you only have one shot at it. If your happy where you work, and you go in everyday, and you accept it's part if your life because you enjoy it, and find a way to make time for yourself and family and have balance, that's great . Makes it easier to continue working a bit more. But now it's so micromanaged, and the humanity is removed for most part, makes it easier to keave... maybe what theywant, maybe by design. Always replaceable, they dont care and it shows. Long gone is the softball teams that were coed, or league that had managers and workers on team together. Xompanybget togethers, and so forth. Yeah, it's a business, but today money is more important than life itself, and friendships. I'll miss my co workers, miss a fee managers, but in the end, I wint miss the operation today, and look foward to waking up with no stress, and finding myself again..because over time in most of theenvironment, depending where you are, the company slowly and patiently chips away at you, and you are a different person than 20 years ago, because you lived through the change. How many here with years enough to retire, or close, can look back 20 years ago or more, and smile looking back on memories..and when do you stop smile looking back. Bet its Around the merger and name change. Having a great work environment does not mean it cant be profitable and run sufficiently. They seem to feel differently about that.

Seriously. 1991.
Since then, it’s been a handshake and a “good luck”. If your manager doesn’t take off that day, which I’ve seen many times as well. The last person from my group to go wandered around for an hour or so hoping someone would mention it. Never happened.

Corrupt management. Even worse HR. Listen I recently went to a retirement party for someone at a transit company. They went all out. Everyone had nice things to say about the company and the people. Not at verizon. You get a big boot and see ya. It's so sad after working for a company 20 or 30 years they just cut you off. No pension, No healthcare, no retirement party and if your lucky you get 25% off your phone bill. bwhahahaha. No one has anything good to say about them. Is that how you want to retire? Really the company has no morals. it's as simple as that. I'd rather work somewhere where I'm appreciated and has work life balance. You won't find that there.Im betting if you retire from there your gonna feel like you wasted your life.

When I was hired, the cafeteria made incredible breakfast. Now, you’re on your own. This is a flagrant failure of an understood agreement that we all signed up for.
If they still made crepes, they wouldn’t have lost their top talent.

Supposedly it is easier to find a job when you have a job. I haven’t been so lucky as I’m overly specialized in something I hate and recruiters can’t understand things don’t have to be exactly the same. Lying on the application or the resume may be the only way t get past the zombies.
Really you just need to find a job. As long as they pay me and I get benefits I’m going to work here. It is kinda interesting to see how bad they can make it tomorrow.
