At this point, AT&T still looks good on a resume. If it's not a positive (and for many companies it is) at least it's not a negative either. But with everything that's been going on, I think that might change soon. And I don't want to be still around when having AT&T on my resume becomes a liability. If finding a good new job now is hard, can you imagine then?

Just stop the nonsense already. These other companies management aren't in the AT&T bubble with you reading message boards of bitter employees. They see AT&T on your resume and all they see is you were a reliable employee, employed for how ever many years. Why in heck would they care what AT&T business strategy was or what company AT&T bought.
Honestly with the degradation in customer service and the amount of times people in my location have bold face lied about things to the clientele, my concern is that another company doesn't want to higher one of us "ashwholes."
I love all these posts that theorize and speculate how a potential hiring manager at another company will look at time spent at T as a negative. Or for that matter, even as a positive. What matters is you...your skills, your ability to market yourself effectively, and most importantly your network of contacts, which will probably be the reason you get an interview in the first place. If you’re one of those negative jerks that spent a couple decades here and no one liked you and you don’t have a decent network of external contacts, you’re pretty much hosed. On the other hand if you worked hard, established good relationships and maintained contact with folks, you’re probably going to be fine.

Must be a manager because if you are craft , you’d be crazy to quit. Just keep milking the job until you’re surplussed and quit over thinking it.
People employed here have not options, that is why we are still here? now a days getting laid off from AT&T creates a huge career challenge for three reasons:
You're now carrying the stigma of a loser company. "I worked for AT&T" might have impressed people in the past but eventually (i.e. sooner than you think), you'll be admitting, rather than bragging, that you once there, and you settle with no choices. reality check for all of us.
