Don’t get me wrong, I don't have the guts to quit my job and I still go through the same stress as everybody else, going to work thinking that it could be my last day. However,when I look at things realistically, AT&T seems less and less of a company that I want to continue working for, at least with it’s current visionless way and it's faulty leadership. When you think about it, maybe getting laid off is not the worst thing that could happen to us, as that would start a process of finally moving to a better environment and trying to get a job at a company in which we would feel better, or at least less stressed out.

Att is a terrible employer, and the people at att are nothing bur mediocre
I have been dodging the bullet for 32 years - it seems to me it could be a blessing in disguise no more stress about getting FMP'd.
It would be nice if people could stop pretending like they care about the vision of the company. The only reason anyone is even commenting on vision is cause they are afraid their job is going to be impacted. If they told you you're golden and guaranteed a job til retirement, you wouldn't care if they made a dime of profit or had any strategy.
It's about not being able to control the uncontrollable that makes this hard. Jobs and life hand us tough circumstances that cannot be altered, only managed. And you hope for the best. I worked at a company for 7+ years that downsized in the mid-80's and ended up at and insurance corporation I hated. Left there after 1 year for United Airlines and after 90 days in Information Technology, was laid off. Interviewed at Ameritech and 28 years later, had a really good job as a Senior Technical Architect. Both layoffs were ugly and harsh but I won out. All I can say. (BTW, United called me to ask me back and I laughed at them. Sweet joy!)
I was in a conversation with someone that I count as a friend, even though we haven't met face to face. It's easy to say getting laid off is a blessing in disguise. But if you have any bills at all, being laid off is no blessing at all. Especially as we age it is much harder to get a job that pays a decent salary, and with so many companies outsourcing and off-shoring, there are very few opportunities out there. I am d*#n glad I have a job. I am happy to be able to make payments on my mortgage. I would be devastated to lose my job, and would only be kidding myself to think or state otherwise. For me: Show up. Get paid. Pay down debts. Be thankful it isn't me this time around. But prepare for when it is me. I have absolutely no expectation of having any job security at all. Life after AT&T? Come on now, T isn't the only company sending jobs offshore. There is a huge vacuum s—ing away all middle class opportunities. I for one, do not plan to embrace the s—.
Best advice to anyone is to keep increasing your knowledge and education at the same time looking for another job.
I come to this site each day hoping to see a solid rumor for a surplus impacting my immediate organization. Unfortunately, not yet. My fingers are cramped from being crossed so tightly!!
It isn’t the same at other companies. Other companies are sane and don’t look under every desk to see who or what they can outsource. Att is sick and is nothing like other companies. Other companies are managed correctly and don’t have hiring practices that make little sense.
It’s pretty much same environment in most of the companies and I hear the same lay-off stories from many friends in other organizations. It’s a well knows fact that every other garden looks green. Enjoy till you are employed here and keep upgrading yourself.

ding ding ding 🛎🛎🛎. We have a winner. Being laid off was exactly like being paroled 3yrs early. I wanted to stay until I reached early Social Security eligible age. The Company had different thoughts and sent me packing. I qualified and earned 2 full pensions. Lumped out went on with life. I’m blessed. Forced out but a blessing in disguised. I have zero stress. I don’t worry about keeping employment in a crazy environment. I am completely debt free. FICO score jumped into the 800’s. I am completely retired and loving it. Fight to keep your job. Go out on your terms if you can. Remember, everything for a reason. Best wishes.

it's the petty politics from leadership that drive me crazy
I think many of us feel the same way. I’m too chicken sh– to quit , but at the same time if I get laid off , it’ll feel like being paroled / released from prison. Half of me looks forward to getting canned. I love what I do but I hate who I do it for.
