It was a godsend. My boss was verbally and mentally abusive. There were others before me, but my boss was protected. My boss nearly drove me over the edge, but I wasn't going to let my boss beat me. My coworkers were wonderful, appreciated my contributions, and helped me more than they will ever know. It was the lowest point in my long career. Along came the offer and it's been all smiles ever since.

My advice, leave when you can. Plenty of opportunity for employment. If you don't want to or cant leave yet, take them to the bank. They have zero power over you unless you let them

Second most exciting day of my working life. The MOST exciting day was on December 28, 2018, when I handed in my laptop and company phone, and walked away with a chunk of money, free as a bird. The last 9 months have been AWESOME and I don't have a second's regret.

My only regret is that the PBGC rate is down and the lump sum would of been 25% higher now vs then.

Best day of my life. Agree wholeheartedly with the free at last. The culture had turned to sh– and All levels of management are clueless and couldn’t run a cool aid stand. My only surprise I learned it was company wide. It’s really that bad. How long until they’re bankrupt?

One of best decisions of my life to depart Verizon and it's Toxic environment and culture. I was part of VES and surrounded by the most incompetent leaders I've seen in 20+ years of corporate life. Sales leadership was a complete joke and cesspool of cronies who would preach "Do as I say but not as I do". Truly a blessing to be out of that dumpster fire!

I clicked the button the first second I could! No regrets, thanks to VZ for giving us so much to leave. My next chapter has been soooo good!

You should be ready to retire after 25 years? Maybe some people but if you started at 20, that would make you 45, kids in college or soon to be, mortgages, etc. while this was a generous offer, for a person with 38 ( my time) years that’s the difference between approx 14 months pay and 2 yrs 3 months. With medical. That would have changed things for a lot of people, not everyone but those on the fence.

“I didn’t say I would retire”.
“After over 25 years you should be ready to retire with or without an employer sponsored handout, give me a break”.......oh yes you did!

Absolute best day of my 39 years there. It was like the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes crew showing up at my door while I was already looking at my winning lottery ticket. ROFL!

  • I also didn’t say it was not generous; it was. I said several of us, including me, would have accepted the package if there had been no cap.

"After over 25 years you should be ready to retire with or without an employer"
You don't know the specifics of my life so you can't affirm that.

"What world do you live in thinking you can retire after only working for 25 years?"
I didn't say I would retire.

So...if they gave you three years pay for example, you would have accepted? After over 25 years you should be ready to retire with or without an employer sponsored handout, give me a break. What other company offers something this generous for rank and file?

The cap wouldn't have mattered much for some teams but it would have mattered much for others. On my team all of as have 25 + years. Several of us, including me, would have accepted the package if there had been no cap.

And up until that point, the rumor was 3 weeks per year, no cap. Boy oh boy. Wonder how many more people would have opted in.

The cap wouldn't have mattered much...90% of the people who took the package within my organization at the time (Network Assurance) had less than 8 years.
