Got a job offer. Does this group (AT&T OCATS IT support) lay off a lot?

Is this in the VoIP area? If so, no money for projects over there either and there seem to be an endless flow of issues. All the software is provided by the vendor, therefore very little in house expertise. And yes, there have been surpluses in this area also, as recent as the January cut, possible since that time also. This included folks (ATO management) that would have met the M75 within 2 weeks of the last day of employment. Read the posts on this board – granted there are some that are extreme and posted by trolls, but you will get a decent perspective of how things are on the inside.
Sure, companies have to make cuts for all types of reasons. The problem here is how they go about doing it, the lies / misleading statements that leadership make, and now their latest gimmick – outsourcing staff instead of surplusing them. For some, this is probably good, they will be employed for the next 12 months while they look for another job (because most will be let go in 12 mos). For others, and I expect most, the surplus route with severance is the preference. There is no way to know how many – but I am sure there are many who could have retired with the MTP that comes with the surplus event that now have lost everything they worked for because they cannot retire.
Ask yourself if it would be possible for the job to be performed by an offshore employee.
Run, run away. Do not pass go and do not try to collect a paycheck from att.
Every group in AT&T lays off a lot. Especially the IT groups. Be careful.
