Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

I submitted for VSIPP

20 years with the companyall in craft. Only 43 so no rule of 75.

Ready to go but I think the evil overlords have no intention of letting me go.

They know the slave labor I do, is fractions of the cost.

I do twice the amount of work in the last 7 years. Due largely in part our crew was cut to half. So the reality is they are saving $16/ hour from 7 years ago and are making me pay my healthcare while doing twice the work.

My 401k and pension are enough to make me leave.

If I dont get an offer in a few months, I will run out vacation and walk away.

Still young enough to be employee and old enough to k ow I am losing money being here.

Good luck to all.

This company is sh– and dont give it any more effort than they give you.

How are you getting pension numbers if you haven't met the MR75?

@wgs, PermTechs are only making a little over half that much per hour. I know our union doesn't see us as 'real' craft technicians, but considering that we are climbing poles with hooks and ladders, changing aerial drops, testing pairs back to the SAI, working forced overtime 'until the load is clear' every night, being put on a PIP if we don't do twice the work and meet unrealistic performance standards, I would definitely call Permtechs modern day slave labor.

At 43 looking for a new job, you will fall over when you see the cost of insurance. I retired under MR75 at 50 and got a new job. I have att retiree insurance, but compared my new employer coverage at the 90/10 level and it is 3 times what I pay for my BCBS retiree coverage. You may decide to stay the 7 to keep decent insurance at a decent price. At least in 5 you have it made time wise for bennies.

Smart to get out when you’re still on the younger side of life. This place is a shiitt show up and down. They’re going to try and 5g everybody out of a job in the near future. Don’t hang around to wait and see if you don’t have to.

Comcast will continue to kick our butts on internet speeds because they’ve made a commitment to turn up gigabit on coax everywhere. Us in the other hand....well we could build fiber out but we want to try this 5g wifi thing. We don’t like to stick with what already works.

Give yourself a raise, do less work.

@ zpo

You would be right if it were the same job.

It is not they combined 2 jobs as 1 this eliminating half the headcount.

Over half the crew is not trained properly on half the job.

Learn it on the fly and save the company money.

You must be management.

Twice as much failures happen because the equipment is not being maintained and OT is being used to catch up on routinea.

But hey your numbers are good.

Managers are time stampers and not much else.

Safety mettings, numbers, etc.

If you are able to do twice as much work in the same workshift as before then they were overstaffed in the past. At least you get paid if you work overtime unlike some other areas of the company.

@wnw

Craft is mainly Central office techs. Rhere are outside techs that are craft. I think 09ers and splicing.

Other than that I am not sure.

I had Insurance covered minus $20 copay which I only paid for visits.

Now I pay $375/month even if I don't go. If I do more OOP costs.

Made $29 dollars an hour when I had insurance.

I did half the work I am doing now.

So they eliminated a job that covered healthcare and paid $29/hour.

That was 12 years ago.

I make $42/ hour now. So a normal crew would mean $21/hour and paying into my healthcare.

It sounds pretty but I am no better off today.

The wage increase on average is 3% yearly. About what I would make now minus that I have premiums and OOP expenses now.

They give investors a 5.3% dividend.

So yeah the labor has been free because I am asked to do twuce the work and the pay as still behind from 12 years ago.

It is in essence slave labor when a company is profitting at all time highs, buying companies, and the.employees are asked to do more with unfair compensation.

Is this the first time youbare on earth space boy?

Do you know the cost if the network goes down?

The peanuts they toss my entire crew for the year fails to meet the fine for such an incident. Yet zero incidents ocur.

Contractors that only do half my job are paid the exact same and better benefits.

This isnt Ma Bell.

The deathstar has never treated the employees well.

@ wgs, Not all craft jobs are paying $40 dollars per hr. Some craft clerk jobs are $30 per hr. Outside work forces at Los Angeles DWP are paying $45 per hr on linemen, LAPD, communication dept paying $40 to 45 per hr. They are hiring.

Slave labor at 40 dollars an hour plus overtime ? You’re going to have a rude awakening when you get out there to the real workforce lol
