Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

What are the Odds of an MVO for L2's Before EOY?

Title says it all; What are the odds, the chances that AT&T will make an MVO with maybe six months severance available to all Levels 2's, the largest group, with the most 50+/Rule 75 people, before the end of the year? I really and truly hope they do. It's the best way to flush out a large head count that they so desperately need.

@3kyl, just a bystander in your little tit for tat, back and forth but that was a poor attempt to recover from a snafu on your part. And the At&t employees people, you desperately tout in those locales, if you’re even correct, are winners of the outsourcing lottery....those we lost our jobs too!

As of 11/14, the chance is really good, probably covered 11/15. I have mandatory meetings scheduled. Reliable scuttlebutt says no sweeteners, standard six month severance, off the books by late December. Involuntary downsizing will follow if not enough volunteer.

@11YDU025-3gjc Maybe wait until Friday. ( hint, it comes after Thursday). There are still people around that can’t tie their shoes and should be shown the door.

Of course it's BS if someone says that it would be for ALL L2's. Maybe for a tiny piece of the company because that person apparently has no clue about how many L2's there are across the company or what their job functions may be.

Well.... it’s Friday and nothing

No call scheduled, my boss hasn’t heard a word.

Is it possible this was all BS?

@1sfw

"...offer comes Friday, off payroll by end of year. Don't expect a severance package".

If severance isn't offered then it's not an MVO.

Wireless is actually doing growth work and as a tech we're begging for more than the 40 hour work week.
If our management we're to open up the pocket books beyond the 40 hours to really allow us to do more growth work we'd save the company tons of money over contractors, do a better quality job and faster. Not too mention keep everyone in management busy with a ton of work.

FWIW I was just told the offer will be specific to C&E

The Q3 ATO Const Mtg volunteers had a similar time line ~45 days. Offered mid month, notified end of that month if accepted, off payroll end of following month.

Hopefully wireless gets hit. In one specific group I am familiar with, they are clerks. They aren’t ‘building’ anything. The contractors are! Can we stop with the games and the L2s that are useless and openly state they got their management to but the bs ‘hook, line and sinker?’ Very sad and I don’t wish for anyone to lose their jobs. But let’s be real here ya’ll. I know you’ll be coming for me that I’m a disgruntled surplussed ex employee. Nope I’m still here and doing nothing! And it’s sad and boring as heck!

@ 1cca, I could be wrong, however if not outsourced, as well as surplus, but MVO'd, the company is under a legal obligation to provide some type of a severance package. You're also required to sign paperwork on taking it, basically stating that you won't come back for more or try to sue them for some reason.

I am invested/hopeful this rumor of an offer going out this week is fact and not fiction. Does anyone know if the offer this would go to other organizations (besides ATO)?

@ 1ujv, I have no problem with taxes, etc on a MVO exit with sev. As to another post on this thread, about bashing those who want a MVO w/ sev and calling us retired in place other general trashing, in general, we are 50+, 20+, already Rule 75. We have nearly 40 years working experience, are highly educated, trained and have extremely sharp current skills, and we want out. We want out with getting "something" as we've given, like our lives to the company to name one thing. We want to be done, as no one will hire us at a reasonable wage along with all the age discrimination.

Announce 11-15
Decide by 11-29
Off payroll 12-31

Seems like plenty of time to me.

You wouldn't receive the severance until 2020. The company has up to 45 days (previous posts on the board have said it takes almost the entire time) to mail out the severance check with would put you into early February before you would receive it... so no tax implications for 2019.

Maybe it is true. They have a lot of practice for MVO so maybe can move quickly. If you are off payroll 12/31 when do you receive your severance? You’ve already worked all year so an additional few months pay up to the 6 months max might push you to a new tax bracket if the money is paid in 2019

Why MVO? If they can just layoff the people they don't want and keep people they want.

The one sensible post, and you-all vote it down?

They won't offer an MVO, because the sandbaggers won't take it. The people that leave, are the people w/skills, that know they can simply go find another job. att would like to retain these folks. You folks that are RIP (retiring in place), simply draw paycheck, and post relentless whining on this board. and don't take the MVOs! ATT is WAY past MVOs now. Good luck!

We know of a restructuring being done by first of the year. We here in Houston will finally be out from under the “Ameritech” management which will be a blessing. Those people up there have no clue how our business should be run. No official word of any offers to leave the business yet. Guess we shall all find out on Friday. But expect to here about restructuring

Good questions as to what group, if any in ATO, as it's pretty large, I hope that it's an across the board offer, and a good one, I'd take it so fast, no hesitation, no thinking twice, and run out like I stole it

MVO would be great if it is offered across the board. I expect that the company will draw "universes" around groups of people they don't want to see leave and that is really not fair from an "employee first" perspective. Some folks who want to leave can't, and some who want to keep their jobs will get laid off. Also if anyone voluntarily accepts an MVO offer, I don't see how they can apply for unemployment benefits.

Why MVO? If they can just layoff the people they don't want and keep people they want. Also if you took the MVO, can you ask for unemployment benefit from your state?
