I have a pretty big list of people I know that left AT&T, that varies from close friends to acquaintances. Some left on their own, some were laid off, but none of those people ended up without getting a new job and non off them found themselves in some catastrophic financial situation, that we’re all afraid to end up in, if we leave. In fact, all of the people that I keep in touch with seem a lot happier that they were working here,and a majority of them landed better paying jobs. Guess that the fear of the unknown is the only thing keeping the rest of us from seeking new opportunities, and that all is not that black in the “outside world” as the people at AT&T like to present it around the water cooler, and that there really are better opportunities.

@2eut, if you were outsourced typically your base pay should have been matched at the new company and you should have had a job at last for 1 year. Do you mean you were surplused?
First....MR75.......you need to check to see what you qualify for. I your not already MR75 then high probability all you get is full pension. (no subsidized Med/Dent).
Jobs.....I was outsourced in Mar 2019. Got gov to pay from my Scrum Master, Prod Owner and Scaled Scrum Cert. I've had only one in person interview at a company and they found me to be too Assertive. They want Pleasant Cooperative people (take note) Other jobs I get HR screening, Hiring Mgr screening and then I'm dropped. When I mention my $ range is from 100K to 130K as reported from various we sites according to my qualifications I think they are scared off. My guess is they want people in the 80K or 90K range and they figure they will train them to be effective. (Old Sal at AT&T was 114K + 11% bonus) Not sure what to say but if you do go looking for a job outside be ready to be met with them wanting to pay entry level salary. OR.........I'm just doing something wrong in the screenings/interviews.
May be best if you are unhappy and far from MR75 look for another job now. Maybe you can find a good job that make you happy.

There aren’t many companies out there that still offer a pension plus 401k match. We all know our days are numbered. I’ve known that for 23 years here. If they let me go, so be it. Until then I will continue to grow my retirement here as long as possible.
Decide for yourself what's better. You can try for the same job, or go back to school and learn a new skill or profession. It's up to you to pick.
I knew of a couple that moved from the big city to the country to make paper by hand. That seemed so crazy. But publishers came to them for their less than perfect product with gold edging for printing a book of Greek poetry with translation on the opposing page. Who would've known? Watch Shark Tank. Believe in yourself. Never let a corporation hold you hostage.

Another troll trying to tell people to look elsewhere. Good posts as to why people are not leaving. Maybe he's at the top of the surplus list and hoping that others leave before they get to him.

I am staying because I have a few years to mr75. I also live at least 2 hour drive away from better paying jobs and I am not going to move or drive that far. I will go down with the ship and then swim to safety.
Honestly, this "fear of the unknown" is just ones own lack of confidence in their own skills. There are plenty of jobs out there and like many that left are better paying and more satisfying to work at. The decision you must make is on you. These layoffs should be a wake up call to ones self. Level up and control your own destiny, otherwise, others will choose for you.
disclaimer: I was laid off at T, had same dumbfounded fear, should have left on my own, but am know 1000x better off making more. Should have done it sooner.
