Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

U-Verse Sunsetting 2022

Interesting to hear that the UV TV product will sunset in 2022 on today’s Broadband and Video town hall when the McElfresh town hall said we were going to be trying to grow both TV products.

U-verse will continue to work for existing customers for years don’t worry. While there are no upgrades coming it’s stable. AT&T Now is good and being sold instead of U-verse in some markets. The issues with that product are that it’s only good for a 1-3 tv customer in its current form. The good news is that’s only a software limitation that can be changed by a software update. If you have a good internet connection you’re good.

Uverse with Fiber to the house is perfect for us not disconnects since we got it years ago. BGW 210-700
at&t should have started with uverse with fiber to the house in the beginning, instead of VRADS.

At this point AT&T couldn't keep Uverse going even if they wanted to. The servers that it uses run on end of life versions of MSFT OS software. And the application level software (Mediaroom) is no longer supported, and the teams that knew how to make changes and fixes were scattered to the 4 winds after the DTV acquisition. Who is going port Mediaroom to modern servers and OSs? They are all gone. If AT&T doesn't get its streaming act together it will have a hard time using its much ballyhooed Warner content to drive subscribers to its own network.

And don't even get me started on their game of musical platforms for streaming. What a disaster! One platform with a variety of plans should be the rule. And no it shouldn't be Osprey. What a vile solution. The Chromecast is smaller, cheaper, and has been out there for years. No buffering issues and is simple to set up. What was AT&T doing back in 2013? Implementing RS's pipedream that distribution of video via Satellite was superior to networks. In 6 years RS was telling investors they had launched their last Satellite. This is what happens when you put an arrogant accountant in charge technical decisions. Failure. Abject failure.

Uverse has been far superior to either DISH or DIRECT satellite services both of which I have used. Sure it could stand some updating but I ain't holding my breath. When they k–l it I will probably go to cable whose service has always s—ed even worse than AT&T's over the years. People who think ala carte streaming services are so great I believe will end up spending a lot more in the end when that is the only option available.

While we were reconditioning F2 cables and setting VRADs, Verizon was running fiber to the home. U-verse has always been an inferior product and won’t be missed when it is completely gone.

Yea R.S. and his buddies have run this company into the ground once again. It tanked once before and looks like under R.S. it will tank the company again. First failure with T-Mobile, U-Verse, Air Gig, Direct TV, Time Warner etc.... they keep him around and everything he does turns out to hurt the company. Oh well Now you have McElfresh who says one thing and then you find out it is just the opposite. No real transparency in this company what so ever.

@1tcx. Not sure what you are talking about. My rg had a coax port but it was iptv and worked with Ethernet. It did not need coax and I never used the coax port.

It was solid as long as you had the bandwidth on the internet. The only frozen picture I had was on the WiFi box two flights up from the rg in a brick and plaster house. Those were very rare and really just occurred when WiFi traffic was high in my house.

Uverse is a stupid name for a now neglected and inferior product. No voice control or streaming services built in. There’s been no new features or updated cpe since dtv was acquired. And let’s not forget the always cutting edge constant random loss of uverse signal screen that rears its ugly head when it wants, that’s also never been addressed by the company. The latest rg doesn’t even have a coax port to backfeed stbs! It’s not like it’d help anyways since hpna shuts off when it likes.

The dvr is free but the customer will pay $10 a month for each set top box after that, plus all the taxes, fees and surcharges. People only order for new promo price and then cancel, rinse and repeat. It’s nothing special.

Companies don’t want to pay techs anymore to install tv service. Most people now can self install any streaming product out there. Dumb-verse had it’s chance but was doomed to failure when the stupid company thought they were going to be just catv and allowed installation on coax. They thought they were sooooo going from the phone line to coax at the nid with that cruddy adapter....it just doesn’t work right.

And of course you’ll have net adds when nobody has the service. The same will happen to dtv. The bleeding will stop and then suddenly we’ll have net adds month over month and year over year. Daaa

Imagine the day they just up and turn it off? The customers are not going to miraculously switch to DTV, they are going to say screw u and move their internet plans to cable and stream on demand and NOT with att tv or HBO max. Go ahead and turn it off and plan your exit from the company as the exodus of costumers gets even worst.

That is not the business model. At&t does not listen to what customers want. They know better than the customers. They tell the customers what they want. Just like how everyone wants to watch a football game on their cell phone instead of their big screen tv. Give me a break. Who comes up with these ideas?

The company has been trying to k–l UVerse since the DTV acquisition. Management was so sure everyone would switch to DTV they had plans to sunset UVerse back then. When that didn't work out, sales used every trick / lie in the book to get customers on DTV.

But then as they were making plans to again start winding down UVerse, customers started revolted and started dropping their inferior DTV service and going back to UVerse.

Now once again, AT&T's wet dream to end UVerse is back. Even though the company has not invested in maintaining or improving UVerse for years now, it's still the best option AT&T has to offer. DTV, DTV now, Osprey and every other half-a$$ed poorly designed flavor of the month that they keep rolling out has not been popular with the customers as a UVerse replacement.

"The really sad thing is that Uverse is the only TV product with net adds over the last year despite every effort to k–l it."

LOL - you can't make this stuff any better if tried. Uverse dvr was the best IMO. Too bad Att didn't stand behind their product.

We have a three year plan for that. Until next year or next quarter when we will have a different plan for that.
