Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

FBO update

There were multiple calls today and some were notified their job functions were going to Accenture and they would be surplused. I was on the call where we were told that some time in 3 quarter 2020, we will be given formal 60 day surplus letter. Some lucky individuals were not impacted.

It's pathetic how our CEO's can make mistakes in purchases such as Direct TV which cost billions and accept bonuses and pay increases in the millions while laying off so many hard workers. This company has been lying to their employees for the last five years. Hard work, great appraisals, and extensive training only gets you a pink slip. The icing on the cake is the only thing the CEO's do is pat themselves on the back.

Instead of cutting workers and outsourcing overseas, T should cut some of this waste:

John Stankey, CEO of AT&T's WarnerMedia who has dramatically reshaped the businesses of Time Warner, saw his total compensation package increase 64% last year, to a total of $16.6 million. Meanwhile, AT&Tchairman, president and CEO Randall Stephenson pulled in a pay package worth $29.1 million in 2018, up 1.4%.Mar 11, 2019

Was this L1 and L2 only or did L3 and L4s get notice?

I don’t know that those who were not affected should be considered lucky. There was no rhyme or reason which isn’t surprising. That really has become a way of life with AT&T. If have 30 or more years, you know this is not the company you started with. Customers are lithe least of their concern. The bottom line in every decision they make is money. They talk about customers like they matter but actions speak louder than words. I have over 30 years and I received the pre-notification for 3rd quarter. I felt relieved. I am actually looking forward to leaving the madness and starting the next chapter of my life. It has been a good run and I am grateful but this is no longer a good place to be.

That's just it, there is no point in working hard for 30+ years anymore for one company. And today's kids know it. They will only work for one company for 3-5 years before moving on.

I was also an employee given the "pre-surplus notification" and my yearly rankings have always been above average or outstanding. So I am confused by this all. What's the point of working hard for 30+ years when in the end it doesn't matter? I am sad and extremely angry.

"Any logic, regarding who is not affected, such as certain work groups not being outsourced?"

Certain functions such as print, Revenue Assurance, etc were not outsourced however it was stated: if your function is outsourced that does not mean you are severed and if your function is not outsourced it does not mean you are not severed. Some were kept based on skills and performance but too many were kept based on who in upper management they knew (i.e. favoritism). FBO will lose many high skilled people (mainly legacy wireless) and keep many clueless, lazy, poorly skilled brown nose types (mainly wireline). About 1300 to 1500 will be outsourced. FBO VP/AVPs are old world landline types with outdated skills, ability and ideas who couldn't meet the financial and performance goals and Accenture was contracted to make it more efficient because of leadership failures .
