Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

comunications town hall

Maybe the thread got removed but did not see one on the mcfreshy town hall. This was my first after a reorg and a promotion (for him) put us under the same chain of command. Not sure how he always rah rah's things but my impressions:

  • because basically everyone on the panel got reorg'd to new assignments previously held by someone else on the panel, they all complimented each other on the great shape they left things for each other. so nobody really said anything about how things were going to change.
  • results showing how horrible things were. lost tv subscribers, wireless only growing because of business (I assume first net) while losing ground to competitors. But HBO Max will come to the rescue so everyone needs to watch warner media day replay. And nothing is going away on tv side (satellite, etc) and, we will invest in all and turn them all around. Slide showing how wireless growing as percentage but made you wonder if it was only because entertainment shrinking. Good news is that people will stop dropping us because anyone having a good rate already had their locked in rate expire by now.
  • marketing person saying how are ads don't stick to consumers unlike those of our competitors. But now that we know why, that's also good news because we can fix it. Apparently one way is to appeal to the gaming market.
  • something about how decisions are going to be pushed down to like 20 regional centers – maybe someone else might know what he meant by this
  • no mention, of course, about layoffs or outsourcings but did mention bringing in a 3rd party. Can only guess that's who will then identify who to cut.
  • a 3 year plan that will turn things around (few specific details but can guess this is only better for executives getting a 3 year lease on their job security now that 2020 last plan date is on them)
  • nobody knew who mcfreshy was so he played on his phone during some executive event (lots of chuckles from panel)
  • basically no time for Q&A especially after the "I'll make this quick and assorted ramblings for 5 minutes"
  • only good question they chose to answer was live one where someone basically asked why we aren't investing in the infrastructure and he basically got shot down saying "we have so much money that we are investing in everything"

3 year plan? In 3 years we will be on our 3rd set of bozos at the top. Every year or so is the same, new leaders at the top, rah rah. Ends with more surpluses and a bigger mess. With McElfresh at the top, we all know how this is going to play out. Just look at what he did to ATO.

"marketing person saying how are ads don't stick to consumers unlike those of our competitors. "

Maybe if the marketing group would stop trying so hard to be politically correct in the ads and actually create a commercial that works we would be better off.

HBO max will have family entertainment to save them. I guess that’s why they just paid $500M for South Park.

"We have so much money that we are investing in everything."

And yet technicians can't order batteries for their high voltage detectors or line diagnostic equipment. Technicians are using dull, worn out and unsafe tools because they are blocked from ordering new tools.

But sure, there's plenty of money for another acquisition or executive golden parachute.

When Mcelfresh took over our organization, we have a surplus of 9 service rep positions who have until November 12th to accept a voluntary offer. If they don’t get the 9 voluntary, then it moves into 9 reps who will be surplussed. This is in the west.

For all the things broken in this company, it’s amazing how the smoke machine still regularly pumps out the smoke (and mirrors)...
