Looks like literally nobody is safe at this company. This year I’ve seen folks with rare and marketable skills, that I thought we couldn’t do without being cut in a blink of an eye. So, I guess the sensible thing to ask at this point is: does AT&T find any work skills and knowledge valuable anymore?

As long as you can get under a desk, you are always marketable, at least with this company. Ask any manager, they’ll tell you and maybe even show you if they think there’s a bigger bonus at the other end.
You’re a fool if you think you are not expendable.
Being a good brown nose to upper management which requires going around your boss a lot in a way that you could charge them with retaliation if they say or do anything negative.
Chief of Staffs - good skill. Glorified assistant, great s—ups, apt to become a VP soon. No substance, deer in headlights.
One skill is how to keep hopping from org to org to avoid surplus. But hr had caught on and is making it a lot tougher especially the closet you get to 75 rule.
One valued talent was to know the right people. They could sponsor you for promotions other's were more qualified to have. It's not what you know but who you know.
Only skills they value are a– kissing, enunciation, and good presentation. Seems like that’s all the skills the leadership has.
Apparently not removing de@d jumpers is one of them.
Cutting all this talent is a short term improvement in P&L results and I am sure Elliott loves that. Medium term impact of losing all this talent will be bad! Who knows if long term they can recover. I have decided it is time to move on. For the long term sake of AT&T and my fellow employees who stay I hope they get rid of Stephenson, Stankey , McElfresh and Stephens in short order
There are plenty of skills valued at AT&T. Unfortunately we’re in a cost cutting phase due to mergers and automation. Mergers create duplicate jobs and automation is going to happen when labor costs are high. It happens in every industry.
That’s where you come in: Stay marketable.
Can you cook the books without getting caught?
No
I think if you can find a way to make bad deals costing billions of dollars you can keep your job and move up the ladder. Also if you are a good sycophant you could be safe.
Of course they don’t. All that matters are cutting costs on the spreadsheet. It’s about quarterly reports to shareholders. Randy and his bean counting horde don’t understand this business and never have because they didn’t come up through operations. They came up thru finance and bean counting.
