Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Do people really not realize this?

Stock buybacks means no growth whatsoever. There is no connection to growth, positive or negative. But, it does mean that there is less stock sharing in the ownership of T, so everything else the same, the price of the stock should grow.

What has changed is the Federal Reserve. While they were hiking rates, Randy was intent on paying off debt. Now that they have lowered interest rates, and are poised to lower them tomorrow below the rate of inflation, share buybacks become more attractive compared to paying down debt.

It is in accordance with the Federal Reserve's real mandate, which is to maintain an asset bubble in the stock market. After all, it benefits the 1%, which is who they work for. AT&T will hardly be the only indebted corporation buying back stock as opposed to paying down debt.

Really well stated, @11LTqDiW-wjq.

Cash flow. Every share they buy back means no dividend paid out.

"All societies that had currency backed by nothing have all failed throughout history"

Have a large investment in gold? Name some countries that won't be failing and give a time frame for when you expect the US to fail.

So instead of employee, knowledge, expertise and retention as well as job security for these employees. The company thinks its a good idea to follow Elliots plan purely on short term gain. Stock Buyback to encourage the stock price to go up but no long-term benefit. Once Elliot goes away for its next victim or if the stock dips as usual all that "investment" will be gone.

One of many reasons why should abolish fed. One of the reasons if not the main one this country founded. Time to get back constitutional printed currency. 16th amendment was snuck in around the end of the year and the holidays. All societies that had currency backed by nothing have all failed throughout history.

Also, when companies buy back their stock, the number of outstanding shares decreases. High level executives compensation is often at least partly based on EPS (Earnings Per Share). With fewer outstanding shares EPS increases and executive compensation increases accordingly.

Maybe they can buy back Elliots shares and tell them to go pound sand.
